Zruč nad Sázavou combines historic sites, trails along the Sázava and playful discoveries around the castle. Cultural attractions, educational trails and active routes offer different ways to get to know the town.

Culture and history

The historical side of Zruč nad Sázavou includes the Hřbitovní kaple sv. Jakuba Většího, a brick burial chapel in the Empire style with a crypt, built in 1846. The interactive exhibition “Příběh řeky Sázavy” is housed in a former barn.

The complex of the Church of Povýšení sv. Kříže is located in the bailey area east of the castle building. It comprises the church, a mortuary, and enclosing and retaining walls. The south wing of Zruč nad Sázavou Castle is open to tourists on two guided tours.

The Vodácké muzeum is located in “Zručský dvůr”. Zručský dvůr was a former farm building belonging to the Schebek family. In addition, the “Baťovská Zruč” portal documents and presents personalities, sites, topics and documents relating to the history of the Baťa era and the subsequent shoemaking era in Zruč nad Sázavou.

Trails and activities

The 3.8-kilometre Zručská cyklostezka runs along the Sázava, connects the new district of Zruč with the old district and continues to Domahoř. The route is suitable for cyclists, inline skaters and pedestrians, as well as for cross-country skiers in winter.

In the castle moat, visitors can try activities including axe throwing, archery, climbing a totem, crossing a horizontal beam, fishing and skittles on the Stezka rytíře Miloty. Also located there is the zábavně-naučná stezka rytíře Miloty z Kolowrat, an educational and adventure trail for children aged three and over.

At Na Rybárně in Zruč nad Sázavou, the Naučná rybí stezka features play elements, secret missions and puzzles. In an entertaining way, it teaches about fish from rivers, ponds and streams.

Nature and views

A two-kilometre educational trail with 14 stations runs through the Zručský zámecký park. They cover the park’s historic monuments and the history of the Schebek family, the castle’s last owners.

Those who want to explore a longer route to a lookout point can follow the seven-kilometre Zručská stezka to the rozhledna Babka. It starts in Zruč nad Sázavou and leads to the Babka lookout tower. Its viewing platform is located on the 24-metre-high tower and offers views of Zruč nad Sázavou and the surrounding area.

This gives you different distances to choose from: the trails range from two to 3.8 and up to seven kilometres. You can therefore choose between a shorter route, a route along the Sázava and a longer route with views.

Getting oriented on site

A car park is located about 200 metres from Zruč nad Sázavou Castle. The castle and the information centre are accessible to visitors with disabilities.
