Lačnov brings together marked hiking trails, sandstone cliffs, protected landscapes and Wallachian cultural heritage. When choosing what to explore during your stay, you can decide whether to focus mainly on the cliffs and trails, natural areas, or historic buildings and local history. The route information ranges from a 3.5-kilometre trail to a 16-kilometre educational trail; cultural themes include architecture, a museum exhibition and the history of the church.

Hiking to cliffs and historic sites

A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Lačnov to Lačnovské skály. The cliffs are a group of sandstone formations in the summit area of Mount Vrátnice and on its southern slopes towards Lačnov. They are accessible only on foot and are not suitable for strollers. Bear this restriction in mind when planning your hike.

A 3.5-kilometre trail leads from the Muzeum Vařákovy paseky to the original settlement site; there is a forest playground along the way. This is distinct from the 16-kilometre Naučná stezka Vařákovy paseky educational trail, which has 15 information stations. It starts at Horní Lideč railway station and then passes by Lačnovské rybníky on its way to Lačnov. The two stated distances offer a practical comparison for planning: the trail from the museum is 3.5 kilometres long, while the educational trail covers 16 kilometres. Local conditions may change, so check the route before setting out.

Protected nature in and around Lačnov

The Přírodní památka Lačnov nature monument is located in the Vizovická vrchovina hills, on the western edge of the built-up area, behind the kindergarten. The protected area was first designated on 21 September 1948. Its precise location makes it a distinct nature-related point of interest within the village.

About one kilometre southeast of Lačnov, Přírodní památka Sucháčkovy paseky lies on the right-hand slope of the Lačnovský potok valley. The protected area consists of a flower-rich meadow with numerous specimens of the specially protected white-flowered crocus. The rock formations and meadow thus offer different natural attractions: sandstone on Mount Vrátnice on the one hand, and a species-rich meadow on a valley slope on the other. Both can be considered as separate themes for a stay in Lačnov.

Wallachian heritage and local history

Farmstead No. 13, built of timber, is a historic monument arranged around a square courtyard. It comprises a residential house, a stable with a hayloft, a barn and a chamber. One of the farmstead’s beams is dated 1811. The date refers to this beam and offers a specific glimpse into the building’s history without reducing the entire farmstead to a single construction date.

The Muzeum Vařákovy paseky commemorates, through its permanent exhibition, the tragic destruction by fire of the Vařákovy paseky settlement at the end of the Second World War. The museum also features reconstructions of original Wallachian buildings, including a residential cottage, a barn and farm buildings. Areas open to visitors include a residential cottage, an outbuilding, a stable, a drying hut and a cellar. In this way, Lačnov highlights both traditional building methods and the memory of the destroyed settlement.

Another point of historical interest is the surviving foundation stones in Lačnov. The site can be reached after about 600 metres from the recycling centre in the lower part of the former agricultural complex. The distance is approximate; it describes access to the surviving stones, not the walking time.

Church and other interests

The Roman Catholic Church of Panny Marie Královny nebe a země was built between 1969 and 1971. It is a branch church in the Valašské Klobouky deanery. There is also a fishing centre at Lačnovské rybníky, visited by anglers from the wider area. These two subjects add church architecture and fishing to the options, without equating them with the hiking trails or natural areas.

Whether you focus on the shorter route from the museum, the longer educational trail, or the architectural and nature-related attractions, Lačnov offers a range of specific starting points for planning your trip. Check local trail conditions before setting out, and choose the themes that suit your planned stay.
