Rymice brings together architectural history, rural folk architecture, and a direct connection to cycling. Historic landmarks include the Renaissance fortress and the Church of Saint Bartholomew; in the village district of Hejnice, preserved farmsteads and a windmill can be found. The open-air museum and a cycle route to Rymice add to these attractions. If you are looking for a hotel in Rymice, you can choose between a focus on cultural history and a stay with a cycling connection.

Fortress and Church in Rymice

The Renaissance fortress of Rymice is the oldest surviving building in the municipality. It was opened to the public in 2006. The Church of Saint Bartholomew stands in the center of Rymice and was built in 1786. The two dates refer to different events: 1786 marks the construction of the church, while 2006 marks the opening of the fortress to the public. This distinguishes the time when the church was built from the later development of public access to the fortress.

Hejnice: Farmsteads and an Interior

Hejnice is a village district of Rymice and was declared a rural conservation area in 1995. Three smallholder farmsteads have been preserved there as a group: houses No. 62, 64, and 65. The ensemble draws attention to several related farmhouses rather than a single building. A specific interior is also identified: House No. 64, “U Vymětalů,” contains a black kitchen with a hearth and bread oven. This takes the focus from the preserved ensemble to a specific detail in one of the houses.

Windmill and Folk Architecture

Another type of building in Hejnice is the German post mill, made entirely of wood and dating from the first half of the 19th century. It turns on a central post, allowing its sails to be positioned into the wind. The central post serves as a pivot, allowing the mill to be turned so that the sails face the wind. In 1977, it was moved to Rymice from nearby Bořenovice. Its history therefore connects its construction period with a later change of location: the mill came from Bořenovice and stands in Hejnice, a village district of Rymice.

The Rymice open-air museum comprises seven examples of folk architecture from eastern Haná. Alongside individual buildings and the farmstead ensemble, it features several examples from a named regional architectural tradition. For cycle tourists, the “From Kroměříž to Discover the Traditions of Haná” route follows cycle route 5033A to Rymice. This provides a separate planning option alongside the village’s historical and architectural attractions.

Highlights for Your Stay

Depending on your interests, you can focus on the fortress and church as historic buildings, or on the farmsteads and post mill in Hejnice as examples of rural folk architecture. The cycle route adds a specific option for traveling by bicycle to these cultural and historical attractions. If the fortress is part of your itinerary, please check in advance whether it is currently accessible.
