Věžky: Castle, Church and Garden Exhibition
Accommodation in Věžky
Věžky offers several distinct points of interest to help you plan your trip: St. Elizabeth’s Church and the Neoclassical castle, the garden and hobby sales exhibition in the castle park, as well as a local treasure hunt and the James E. Hoffman Memorial. If you are looking for a hotel in Věžky, you can choose what to focus on during your stay: architectural history, the exhibition, or other local attractions.
Castle and Church: Two Building Phases
Věžky Castle was built by the Weissenburg family in the mid-19th century, replacing a Baroque building. It is a Neoclassical building with a castle chapel. St. Elizabeth’s Church was built later: Gustav Redlich constructed it in the Neoclassical style from 1902 to 1904; it was solemnly consecrated on November 6, 1904. The chronology is clear: the castle dates to the mid-19th century, while the church was built between 1902 and 1904. Behind St. Elizabeth’s Church, a staircase leads to the crypt of the local nobility and the builder, Gustav Redlich.
Exhibitions in the Castle Park
A recurring garden and hobby sales exhibition is held in the castle park. It features a wide selection of garden products, including flowers, plants, and gardening equipment. The selection may vary from one edition to the next. If the exhibition is the reason for your trip, check the date and offerings for the specific edition in advance. In 2013, the exhibitions were moved from the castle to the park. This puts the change of venue in context: in 2013, they moved from the castle to the park.
The park is also notable for its trees. Among its most remarkable trees is a commemorative tree, 29 meters tall with a trunk circumference of 650 centimeters. Height and circumference describe different measurements. Future tree surveys may result in slight changes to these measurements.
Memorial, Treasure Hunt and Travel
The James E. Hoffman Memorial is located in Věžky, by the road between Věžky and Zlobice. Another local attraction is Šipkovaná ve Věžkách: the local treasure hunt was prepared in cooperation with the municipality of Věžky by the local action group Hříběcí hory. The memorial and the treasure hunt represent different interests—a named memorial and a community-organized treasure hunt.
The Věžky bus stop is right next to the exhibition grounds. If you are traveling by bus, check the route and timetable before setting off. When planning your hotel stay, it is easy to distinguish between the historical local attractions and the exhibition date: the castle and church tell the story of the area’s architecture, while the exhibition is a recurring event with a changing selection. If it is central to your trip, check its date separately.
