Discover Zástřizly
Accommodation in Zástřizly
Zástřizly brings together traces of an unfinished motorway, local history and hiking trails. Topics include the fortress site, first mentioned in 1417, the stone Stará Cihelka Bridge and the trails through Studený žleb. The village is also part of the Chřiby protected landscape area. This offers different points of interest for planning your trip: architectural landmarks, historical context and walking routes.
Traces of an unfinished motorway
Traces of the construction of a motorway planned during the Second World War but never completed can be found in the municipality of Zástřizly. These include three almost-completed motorway bridges. The route associated with Zástřizly was originally intended to connect Brno and Zlín. The contrast between the ambitious plan to link the two cities and the nearly finished but incomplete bridges makes the history of the project clear.
Fortress history and discoveries
The former fortress in Zástřizly was first mentioned in 1417. It lost its function and probably fell into disrepair in the 17th or 18th century. During construction work at the school in 1899, substantial stone foundations and extensive underground rooms were discovered; these were probably remains of the fortress. The history of the fortress therefore stretches from its early mention to the later discovery of structural evidence of the complex.
The Stará Cihelka Bridge
A green-marked hiking trail leads from Zástřizly to the stone Stará Cihelka Bridge, which lies in a wooded valley. It dates from the late 19th century and was built of stone and brick. The bridge is also called Kamenný most or Cihlový most. A space in one of the bridge’s arch openings served as accommodation for forestry workers in the 1950s. The construction, the different names and the former use of the space bring together several aspects of the bridge’s history.
Hiking trails and navigation
A circular hiking trail passes through Studený žleb towards Vlčák and back to Zástřizly. The hike through Studený žleb follows the green waymarking to the Nad Studeným žlebem junction. The two route descriptions differ in their destinations: one is a circular route returning to Zástřizly, while the other leads to Stará Cihelka. This lets you choose between a loop and a route to a named landmark. Waymarking and trail conditions may vary; check them before setting out.
The Chřiby landscape
The Chřiby protected landscape area, which includes Zástřizly, protects, among other things, species-rich beech forests. The Chřiby landscape is highly dissected, and its highest point is Brdo, at 587 metres. The landscape and nature therefore complement the village’s history and individual landmarks with a regional perspective. The beech forests and the prominent high point describe different aspects of this landscape.
Getting there by bus
The stops for onward bus connections are on the main road, 500 metres from the village centre. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetable in advance.
