Stabekk has a station on the Drammen Line and a historic centre with many cultural heritage sites. When choosing a hotel in Stabekk, you can focus on specific interests: Is the station important as an arrival point, or would you rather focus on local history and culture? Local highlights range from the railway line to a historic farmstead and a former cinema building that now serves as a cultural centre.

Stabekk Station: Transport and History

Stabekk Station is on the Drammen Line and opened in 1884. There is also a bus stop at the station. For boarding, the station has a mobile wheelchair ramp, which train staff operate when needed. As train services can change, it is advisable to check the timetable for your travel date.

Ringstabekk: Architectural and Garden History

Ringstabekk is the highest-lying of the Stabekk farms and was originally called Øvre Stabekk. The main building is named Slottet and was built of brick in the Neo-Romanesque style in 1851. The Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Riksantikvaren) listed Ringstabekk in 2003. The garden is also part of its historic character: it was laid out in the Victorian English landscape style. Surviving remains of paths, walls, and planting form small landscape spaces. This means the estate can be understood not only through its main building, but also through the design of its outdoor areas. Store Stabekk is believed to have been the first of the four Stabekk farms to be cleared and settled. Stabekk also has a historic centre with many cultural heritage sites that bear witness to the area’s development.

Cinema History and Cultural Centre

When completed in 1926, Stabekk Kino was Bærum’s first cinema building. Since the cinema closed in 1997, the building has served as a local cultural centre. Since its founding in 2004, Stabekk Teater has been based at Kulturhuset Stabekk Kino. For more than 20 years, it has entertained children and adults with colourful family performances. Its vision is to create professional performances featuring children for child audiences. The cultural centre rents out its spaces for concerts. If you would like to attend a particular theatre performance, check the date before travelling, as individual performances vary.
