Fjellhamar: Culture, Railway Station and Swimming Pool
Accommodation in Fjellhamar
In Fjellhamar, rail connections, cultural history, swimming and cycling are different themes to consider for your stay. If you are looking for hotels in Fjellhamar, you can think about which one will shape your trip.
Getting here and finding your way
Fjellhamar station is a stop on the Hovedbanen railway line. Trains run from here towards Oslo, Lillestrøm and Asker. If you are planning your trip by train, these destinations provide an initial orientation; train services may change, so it is advisable to check the current timetable.
Maskinhallen is located in the Bruket Fjellhamar industrial area, at Fjellhamarveien 52, 1472 Fjellhamar. It is clearly signposted from the main entrance to the site. The address and the signposting described provide a specific point of reference for this cultural venue.
Culture and industrial history
Bruket Fjellhamar is home to the 128-year-old Maskinhallen: a 1,000-square-metre concert hall that has been transformed into a unique cultural venue. Since autumn 2023, it has hosted concerts and major cultural events featuring well-known artists. Fjellhamar bruk is a technical-industrial heritage site recognized as having local and regional conservation significance.
The history of housing and community life is also part of the area’s story: Fjellhamar is home to the first apartment blocks in Lørenskog municipality. Lørenskog boligbyggelag built them in the mid-1950s. At Fjellhamar kirke, children, young people and adults meet every weekday for various activities and community events. Together, these different themes offer insights into Fjellhamar’s industrial, residential and community life.
Swimming at Fjellhamar arena
The swimming pool at Fjellhamar arena has two pools of different sizes and water temperatures. The competition pool measures 25 × 21 metres and has a water temperature of 27 °C; the teaching pool is 12 × 8.5 metres and 29 °C. It is therefore smaller and two degrees warmer than the competition pool. The swimming pool is intended for swimmers and recreational athletes who want to train or swim in the pool. If swimming is important to your trip, check the current operating conditions in advance.
Cycling route and park section
After passing under the railway line at Fjellhamar station, the Lørenskog–Fjellhamar–Strømmen–Sagdalen cycling route follows Fjellhamarveien, where there is a shared pedestrian and cycle path. After crossing the Fjellhamarelva, the cycle route continues along a gravel road through Fjellhamardammen miljøpark. The route described therefore includes both a road section with a shared pedestrian and cycle path and a gravel path through the park.
Regional context: Lørenskog
The wider destination of Lørenskog includes other distinct nature and culture themes. The Østmarka nature reserve covers just under 18 km² and lies within the municipalities of Enebakk, Rælingen and Lørenskog. Østmarka has walking trails, ski trails and lakes that can be enjoyed year-round.
Another historical point of interest in Lørenskog is Vasshjulet, the drive mechanism of Østmorksaga. It was one of the largest sawmills in the region and one of the last water-powered sawmills in Norway to use a gang saw. This regional context complements Fjellhamar’s local history without conflating the themes of the two places.
