Hellvik: Coastal Paths, Hellvikbukta and Hellviktangen
Accommodation in Hellvik
If you are considering Hellvik as a destination, three specific themes provide a useful guide: Hellvikbukta, with its breakwater, rocks and bathing beach; Kyststien, with a route to Hellvik and Hellviktangen; and Hellviktangen as a historic site and place to visit. The following sections cover the coastal landscape, the route and the offerings at Hellviktangen separately. This can help you assess which of these aspects matter most for planning your trip.
Hellvikbukta and the protected plant area
Hellvikbukta is a protected bay with a breakwater, smoothly polished rocks and a beautiful bathing beach. It is located about 1.3 km past Berger brygge along the route. This distance provides a specific reference point along the way.
The Hellvik gamle brygge plant protection area safeguards the rare plant species hvitmure and its habitat. The protected area covers approximately 1.2 decares of land. Camping and pitching tents are prohibited in the area.
Kyststien: local paths and the wider route
Kyststien Route 655 is 6.4 km long and leads to Hellvik and Hellviktangen. Kyststien runs along the eastern side of Nesoddlandet by the Bunnefjord, between Blylaget and Nesoddtangen, and passes through Hellvik. This connects a specific destination in Hellvik with a longer coastal route.
One route leads into Hellvik’s residential areas and follows Hellvikalleen to the northern end of Hellviktangen. Allow approximately 45 minutes to walk along Kyststien to Hellviktangen; conditions on the route may vary. The estimated time and route length are separate points of reference for your planning.
Within the wider destination of Nesodden, Kyststien runs north from the landing at Blylaget brygge along the Bunnefjorden coast to the main terminal at Nesoddtangen, then south along the Oslofjord to Fagerstrand. This longer route helps distinguish the section through Hellvik from the entire coastal path.
Hellviktangen, history and café
Hellviktangen is an old farm at the northern tip of Hellvikodden and an Art Nouveau villa by the water in a recreational area with a park, its own landing and a bathing beach. Hellviktangen is also a popular place to visit, with an art café, concerts and a bathing beach. The events programme may change.
The first ship to dock at Hellvik brygge was the paddle steamer Dragen, operated by Christiania og Omegn Dampskibsselskap, in 1857. The date and the ship’s name provide a specific reference point in local history.
The Hellviktangen art café serves lunch and dinner, as well as cake and coffee. Around 80 percent of the ingredients are organic, and the food is made from scratch in the café’s own kitchen. The menu and service information may change; check before visiting if the café is important to your plans.
