Jessheim combines a cultural programme and local history with swimming and outdoor activities. A stay here can be tailored to different interests: performances and cinema, historic buildings or paths by the water. The themes range from the station’s architecture to the birdlife at Nordbytjernet.

Culture and Local History in Jessheim

Ullensaker Kulturhus is a modern, multi-purpose venue offering a varied programme for children and adults, featuring professional artists as well as local amateur performances. Its three amphitheatre halls, Kong Rakne, Vesong and Kisi, are used for cultural events and cinema. The venue also has a black box theatre, a library, a foyer and the Gnist café.

The cultural centre is a two-minute walk from Jessheim station, which has train and bus connections. The station itself also has a place in history: it was built in 1908 and designed by Henrik Bull. A stay here brings together today’s cultural offerings and a building with a clearly defined place in history.

In the town centre, a cultural heritage walk leads to 18 signs about culturally significant properties and buildings. Herredshuset is part of Jessheim’s old wooden architecture and is protected or designated for conservation. The walk and Herredshuset offer different ways to explore the town’s history.

Jessheimbadet: Swimming and Activities

Jessheimbadet covers 6,400 square metres and has six pools; it opened in May 2021. Highlights include a 41-metre slide and a diving tower with platforms at heights of 1.3 and 5 metres. At Jessheimbadet, you can work out, spend time with others or enjoy a fun experience with the family. The pools, slide and diving tower offer different ways to enjoy the facility.

Nordbytjernet and Outdoor Trails

On the outskirts of Jessheim lies Nordbytjernet, a kettle-hole lake with diverse plant and birdlife. Species include great crested grebes, moorhens and coots. The path around the lake is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Another option for getting active is the Aktivitetsløypa in Jessheim: a 2.8-kilometre loop from Nordbytjernet via Hauganmyra and Bjørmoen. Three stations have strength-training equipment with adjustable resistance, suitable for all fitness levels. If you’re looking for a route with a specified length, the Aktivitetsløypa is a clear option; the lakeside path is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Historic Places in the Ullensaker Destination

In the wider Ullensaker destination is Trandumskogen, a memorial site where 173 Norwegians, 15 Russians and 6 British people were executed during the Second World War. A surviving tank firing range from the war is part of the cultural landscape there. Also in Ullensaker, the Viking i Kisi heritage trail runs between Algarheim and Nordkisa. Information boards stand at four burial grounds from the Late Iron Age, dating to approximately 550–1030 AD.
