Discover Dalholen
Accommodation in Dalholen
Dalholen combines cultural and historical traces in the village with information and opportunities for activities in the mountains. If you are looking for a hotel in Dalholen, the distinctions between cultural history, horse riding, cycling, winter sports and fishing can help you shape your trip.
Heritage and orientation in Dalholen
Dalholen has large trapping systems with several dozen trapping pits. They date from the Iron Age or the Middle Ages. The number of pits gives a tangible sense of the scale of the systems and offers a concrete introduction to the cultural history of the area.
Fjelloppsynet has an office in Dalholen and provides various user groups with information about the selection of tours and ski trails, as well as fishing conditions. Information about cultural heritage sites and cultural history is also available there. The office may be staffed irregularly because of work in the mountains. If you need in-person assistance, check whether it is staffed before your visit.
Horse rides, cycling route and ski trails
Kvistli Islandshester is based in Dalholen and offers multi-day rides with overnight stays in the mountains. This option may appeal to travelers who want to make a longer ride a key part of their trip planning.
The Tour de Dovre is an approximately 130-kilometer cycling route around the Dovrefjell plateau. It follows Vestsidevegen (Fv702) southeast past Dalholen and continues to Fv29 at Bruvoll. The approximately 130 kilometers refer to the entire route; the section by Dalholen is part of its course. Road conditions and signage may change, so check the current route before planning a specific ride.
For winter, the municipality’s ski trail plan, adopted on September 14, 2017, lists the Grimsbu–Dalholen area as one of the main areas within the total of 120 kilometers of groomed ski trails. The plan is dated and does not indicate current grooming conditions. If you are planning a day of skiing, check the trail conditions in advance.
Fishing around Dalholen
North of Dalholen, the Eide Bridge over the Folla marks the boundary between fishing areas 1 and 2. The “Sportsfiske i Folldal” fishing permit is valid, among other places, for the Folla, adjacent streams and Nygruvtjønna outside the Statsallmenningen. As fishing regulations may change, check the current conditions when planning your trip.
