Tangen: Discover trails, the railway station and culture
Accommodation in Tangen
When choosing a destination, Tangen offers several distinct points of interest: an easy route between two railway stations, train connections on the Dovre Line, and a church and cultural centre. This makes it easy to distinguish between hiking, rail and cultural attractions and give them the weight that best suits your travel plans.
Hiking, cycling and landscapes
Stasjonsstien starts at Tangen railway station and runs as an easy route between Tangen and Stange railway stations. Along the way, it passes through a nature reserve and by abandoned smallholdings and cultural heritage sites. Nature and cultural history therefore shape the route. Seasonal conditions may affect access; check current trail conditions before setting out.
Tangen railway station is also a point of reference for cyclists: it is one of the stations providing access to the Mjøstråkk cycling route around Lake Mjøsa. The two routes differ in nature: Stasjonsstien is an easy route between Tangen and Stange, while the railway station provides access to a cycling route around the lake.
The Tangen peninsula lies near the destination, between Tangenvika and Stor-Mjøsa. It has a long, undeveloped shoreline. This adds a distinct coastal landscape to the specific route of Stasjonsstien.
Railway station and cultural history
Tangen railway station is on the Dovre Line. Trains run from there towards Lillehammer, Oslo S and Drammen. As services may change, check the timetable for your specific travel date. The station is therefore relevant both for train travel and as the starting point for Stasjonsstien.
The listed Tangen railway station ensemble includes a preserved station building, a goods shed, platforms and loading facilities. In addition to its train connections, the station offers a second point of historical interest: the ensemble includes buildings and facilities, and thus extends beyond the station building alone.
Church and cultural centre
Tangen Church is an octagonal, timber-clad wooden church designed by the architect Christian Henrik Grosch. Its shape, timber construction and architectural design give the church its own distinctive character. It complements the technical and historical elements of the railway station ensemble with a standalone place of worship.
Fredheim is a cultural centre in Tangen, in the municipality of Stange. It is open for guided tours on certain weekends or by appointment. If Fredheim is part of your plans, arrange a time in advance and bear in mind that guided tours are available only on a limited basis.
Hiking trails in the wider Stange destination
