Accommodation in Hauglandshella
When looking for a hotel in Hauglandshella, it is worth considering two geographic areas: destinations in the immediate vicinity and other places and activities across the wider destination of Askøy. This makes it easier to consider the local options separately from the wider range of things to do on Askøy.
Nearby: Meavågen and Kollevåg
In Meavågen, near Hauglandshella, you’ll find Friluftshuset. It has a barbecue area and seating for about 100 people. Outside, there is also a stone quay, a dance floor, and seating. The house is open for everyone to use unless it has been rented out. Bear this in mind when planning a visit.
Several paths and trails run through the Kollevåg outdoor recreation area, including one leading to Mjøneset. Kollevåg is also a good starting point for paddling trips along the west side of Askøy. On the western side of the recreation area, Askøy Sailing Association operates Askøy Seilsportsenter. The trails and paddling opportunities offer different ways to explore the area, with Kollevåg as the starting point for both.
Other nature destinations on Askøy
On Askøy, Askøy på langs crosses the island: the route is about 37 kilometres long and runs from Kleppestø, over the highest points and through the densest forests, to the scenic Herdla. For those interested in a hike, it offers a route with clearly defined endpoints and varied terrain.
Herdla also offers opportunities for birdwatching. More than 240 bird species have been recorded there over the years. From the birdwatching tower at Valen, you may see waders, ducks, and gulls, and possibly an eagle. Access is prohibited in parts of the Herdla Nature Reserve and in the seabird reserves from 15 April to 30 September. Check local signs and regulations before visiting.
Other activities on Herdla include disc golf and the nine-hole Herdla Golf coastal course, where the sea is visible from every hole. Leisure equipment can be borrowed free of charge from BUA. Herdla Fort has parking, toilets, and visitor information; check the latest details about these facilities before your visit.
Siglingabu is in an established recreation area in the eastern part of Askøy. The path from the car park at Siglingavatnet to the cabin is 1.2 kilometres long, entirely gravel, and offers step-free access to the cabin. At Siglingabu, visitors can go boating or canoeing, fish, and swim. Siglingavatnet outdoor recreation park also has a floodlit ski trail and canoe rentals.
