Misje: Hiking Trails, Kayaking and Cultural Landscape
Accommodation in Misje
Misje offers several ways to plan a trip around specific hiking trails, paddling options and a cultural landscape in the north. If you want to spend your days outdoors, you’ll find different options here: a hiking route listed by the municipality, information on getting there by bus and day trips by kayak.
Hiking and Landscapes on Misje
Øygarden Municipality lists the North Sea Trail route Fjæreide–Spjeld–Ågotnes–Vindenes–Solsvika–Misje in its list of hiking trails. The place names show the route; it ends in Misje. In the north of the island, there is also a cultural landscape with hay meadows and pastures, stone walls and stone gardens. These features shape a different part of trip planning from the guided paddling options: here, the focus is on the traditional use of the landscape.
There are specific parking guidelines for the Vest i Markja route. Because parking is limited, it is recommended that you park at the rest area on the left side of the road shortly before the bridge over Solsviksundet. Parking on the roadside is not recommended. As parking options may change, check the current situation before your trip.
Getting There by Bus
Bus 479 towards Hellesøy takes about 10 to 15 minutes from Ågotnes Terminal to Misje. From Straume Terminal, bus 460 connects with bus 479 to Misje; the bus journey takes about 40 minutes. Both times are approximate. Before departure, check the route, connections and current travel time with Skyss.
Kayak Tours and Day Trips
ReigstadUnlimited runs day trips on Misje from a base in a boathouse. Facilities there include kayaks, a wood-burning stove, a toilet and a seating area. The kayak tours are designed for beginners and pass through sheltered waters between the islands. The Misje area is presented as a paddling and hiking area with numerous small islands where you can paddle and go ashore.
Depending on the trip, options may include a simple paddling trip or hike, as well as rental of all the paddling equipment, a paddling suit and shoes. These options are not available on every trip: check when booking which services are specifically included and whether places are available.
A day trip may also include a shared meal on the rocks by the sea. Other possible activities include lighting a fire and preparing outdoor food. Fishing from a kayak and swimming in the North Sea may also be part of a trip. No set menu is included; check the menu and availability when booking, as well as the conditions for these activities.
