Fjords and islands, trails through forests and open terrain, and cultural sites give Sveio many different sides. During your stay, you can focus on nature, cycling, swimming or culture. Destinations range from marked trails with approximate walking times to a beach, a garden and a cultural lighthouse.

Landscape, Trails and Planning Your Time

The Nipaståvo day-use cabin lies on the trail from Stølen in Auklandshamn to Emberlandsnipen. It is set in a typical western Norwegian coastal landscape of fjords and islands. The trail to the cabin is about 2.7 km long. At a relaxed pace, it takes an adult approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes—a useful guide when planning your time for this outing.

Sveio Golf Park offers a different kind of landscape. The GolfstĂĄvo day-use cabin is located in the middle of the park, near the centre of Sveio. The trail through the golf park follows gravel paths across gently rolling terrain with woodland and open golf course. There are lakes and ponds along the way, and the area is also home to a rich variety of plant and bird life.

If you want to explore Sveio by bike, the Kystrunden is a signposted route that starts in the centre of Sveio and follows the Rv47 towards Bergen. Near Bjelland, it passes a protected wetland. Highlights of this natural area include its diverse birdlife, a birdwatching tower and a hiking trail. This lets you pair the cycling route with a specific nature-focused stop without confusing the route with the hiking trail.

For another walk, the marked trail to LeirvĂĄg starts at Nappabrua and takes about 20 minutes to walk. Trail conditions can change, so check them before setting out. At Langavatnet, there is a developed swimming and fishing area. A fishing licence is required to fish; check the current requirements if you plan to fish there.

Swimming and Trails in Førde

Strando in Førde has a shallow, family-friendly bathing beach, a toilet and wheelchair-accessible access. Facilities and accessibility can change, so it is worth checking current conditions before your visit. The centre of Førde-bygda also has a network of gravel paths accessible by wheelchair or pushchair. Conditions can change here too, so check accessibility for your specific plans in advance.

The park combines botanical diversity with a distinctive artistic element. There is also a cholera cemetery in LeirvĂĄg near ValevĂĄg, one of the best-preserved cholera cemeteries in Sunnhordland. These sites offer different experiences: Rex Garden brings together plants and art, while the cemetery centres on a historic site.
