By the water in Lesundet, Aure, lies Skjærgårdsparken Lesund, a complex with holiday homes. Lesund combines coastal activities with short walks in the immediate surroundings and longer hikes in Aure’s mountain areas. Local history and cultural attractions in the municipality also offer different ways to explore the area.

Landscape and Trails

Skjærgårdsparken Lesund lies between Trondheimsleia and the skerry landscape of Aure. Lesundet has a rich flora, with a wide variety of meadow flowers. There are opportunities for short walks in the immediate vicinity of Lesund, while longer mountain hikes lead into the larger mountain areas of the municipality of Aure. The trails therefore differ mainly in length and location: short walks stay nearby, while longer hikes take you farther into the municipality.

Mountain areas are available for hiking in both summer and winter. The ascent of Storbrannfjellet starts a five-minute drive from Skjærgårdsparken Lesund and offers views across all of Trondheimsleia and towards the Tustna mountains. From Skjærgårdsparken, you can also go kayaking, hike mountains such as the 908 m-high Inderbergssalen, pick berries in the forest or go cross-country skiing during the Easter period.

Coast, Water and Fishing

Immediately in front of the holiday homes at Skjærgårdsparken are rocky shores suitable for swimming and sunbathing. The holiday homes have moorings with direct access to Trondheimsleia for fishing trips and water sports. These activities combine a stay by the water with outings on the sea route.

Depending on the weather, cod, pollock, haddock, saithe, crabs and lobster are among the fishing options in the Lesund area. Sheltered coves are available in rougher weather. Lesund-klakken is considered a popular spot for catching small saithe for dinner.

Local History

Åkvika in Lesundet was a centre for business and social life in outer Nordmøre and was therefore called “London”. Melland Fort is located near Lesund. A constructed path leads there; at the fort, there are picnic tables, a barbecue area and cultural traces from the war.

Melland strongpoint was established in the winter of 1943/44 on the Finset farm on the outer side of Skardsøya by the German occupying forces. It was part of the Trondheim-West artillery group and had two gun batteries with a total of eight guns. The historic site thus brings together visible cultural traces and a clearly identifiable role in the coastal defences of the time.

Cultural Attractions in Aure

The municipality of Aure has other cultural attractions as well. Kråksundet Sjøbruksmuseum has collections of equipment and objects documenting coastal culture and the Geitbåten boat. Aure kyrkje dates from 1924 and is considered the largest wooden church in Møre og Romsdal; its altarpiece is dated to 1460. Aure’s old municipal building was relocated and transformed by Aure Kunstlag into a café and art gallery.

The water activities, in turn, are connected to the coast and, in the case of the moorings, to the holiday homes at Skjærgårdsparken.
