Vevang combines cultural themes with coastal experiences. The Vevang Cultural Trail brings together art, literature and cultural history from the Second World War. The route offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Road and the wild coastal landscape of Hustadvika. Along the Cultural Trail, historical themes sit alongside views of the coast.

Cultural Trail and traces of the Second World War

If you are interested in art, literature or the history of the Second World War, the Cultural Trail provides a shared thematic framework. Its cultural elements can be considered alongside the panoramic views of the Atlantic Road and Hustadvika: the trail connects history and art with the surrounding coastal landscape.

About halfway along the route, a small patch of woodland is home to a natural amphitheatre. It is used for cultural experiences and concerts. Its location in the woodland sets it apart from the panoramic viewpoints along the Cultural Trail. The trail also leads to a bunker area from the Second World War. Pay attention to local conditions there.

At Vevang fort and in Malmekleiva, you will find bunkers, trenches and other traces of the Second World War. These places add to the historical themes that also feature along the Cultural Trail.

“Columna Transatlantica” on the Atlantic Road

The artwork “Columna Transatlantica” in Vevang on the Atlantic Road was created by Norwegian artist Jan Freuchen. At Vevang, it consists of 40 marble elements that form a curved, interrupted line across the small coastal islets. Rather than a single compact piece, its form is defined by a sequence of individual elements. The arrangement and the use of marble give the work a distinct artistic focus in the coastal landscape.

The Cultural Trail brings together several cultural themes, while “Columna Transatlantica” is a specific composition made up of 40 parts. This allows you to place different aspects of art and cultural history in Vevang in context without presenting them as a single offering.

Guided activities on the water

Strømsholmen offers a three-hour guided deep-sea fishing trip with several fishing spots. “Swim With Seals” offers a different kind of experience: the activity includes a guided boat trip to Orskjæra and the opportunity to snorkel among wild grey seals in their natural environment.

The activities differ in focus: the fishing trip centres on deep-sea fishing and several fishing spots, while “Swim With Seals” focuses on the boat trip and the option to snorkel. Scuba diving is also available, but only for certified and experienced divers. Tours and the availability of scuba diving may be seasonal. Before planning, check whether your chosen activity is available during your travel dates.
