For your trip planning in Bangsund, there are several themes to explore: the marked trail to Håmuren, the history of the Bangdalsbruket sawmill, the floating Havna Sjøbad sauna, and the small-boat harbor. The local highlights range from a scenic trail to industrial history and moorings by the water.

Håmuren: trail, weather, and views

The marked and prepared trail to Håmuren is 1.8 kilometers each way. On maps, the destination is also called Håmyrfjellet. The distance given is for one direction. Some steep sections can be challenging in rainy weather; trail conditions can vary by season. From Håmuren, you can enjoy a lovely view over Bangsund and toward Namsos. The salmon rivers Bogna and Aursunda are also nearby. Both are only a few minutes from the school and the village of Bangsund.

Bangdalsbruket and local history

Grave finds and other cultural monuments provide evidence of settlement in Bangsund and the surrounding area since the Late Iron Age. A notable part of the village’s later history is Bangdalsbruket: the sawmill was built in 1881 on Fagerholmen in Bangsund. It burned down in 1909, was rebuilt, and remained in operation until 1980. Until it closed, it was the largest sawmill north of the Dovrefjell mountains. The timber came mainly from its own forests. This sequence of founding, rebuilding, and closure places the business’s history in context without making a visit today dependent on any particular historical access.

Sauna, harbor, and practical information

Havna Sjøbad is a floating sauna in Bangsund. If you are planning a visit, check the current operating details with the operator, as they may change. Bangsund has its own boat owners’ association and a small-boat harbor where moorings can be rented. Availability and rental terms may change; check in advance if you need a mooring.

For supplies, Bangsund has a parking area by a gas station or shop where you can pick up provisions. What is available may change, so check in advance if needed. The harbor, sauna, and provisions are separate planning considerations and should not be understood as a single combined service.

The wider Namsos area

In the wider Namsos destination area, the Namsen River flows into the fjord. Stolpejakten takes place there during the summer season, starting on June 1: it is a free, accessible orienteering and physical activity concept. For those interested in culture, Fosnes Bygdemuseum near Dun on Jøa offers a glimpse into rural history; it is a small open-air museum.

Kunstmuseet NordTrøndelag is located in the Kulturhuset in Namsos and presents Norwegian contemporary art through a varied exhibition program. The museum also has an open workshop with activities for adults and children. Since the workshop program may change, it is worth checking the current schedule. The Land-art museum Hestøya features artworks by eight international artists.

The viewpoints are also easy to distinguish: from Håmuren, the view extends over Bangsund toward Namsos; the Klompen pavilion offers a viewpoint overlooking the city of Namsos. Bjørmunslumpen, usually called Klompen, is Namsos’s city mountain. Several trails lead from the center to the summit and usually take 20 to 30 minutes.
