For your trip to Limingen, winter sports, fishing and nature experiences can take centre stage. The Børgefjellsenteret offers various opportunities for outdoor activities; Lake Limingen is known for its Arctic char. There is also an information centre about the Arctic fox and Zarinatangen beach.

Fishing at Limingen

Limingen is a notable Arctic char lake, with crystal-clear water and a rocky bed. Arctic char is the dominant fish species and occurs in three ecological forms: standard char, dwarf char and grey char. There is also a population of trout.

The fishing licence for Limingen is valid for the lake within the boundaries of Røyrvik municipality. Check the scope of the permit before your trip, as regulations may change. Visit Børgefjell is the tourist information centre and provides information about attractions, activities and accommodation. Fishing and hunting licences can also be purchased there. If fishing is a focus of your stay, this lets you combine finding the right licence with planning your other activities.

Skiing and cross-country trails

The Børgefjellsenteret has two ski lifts and six downhill runs. Around 25 kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails are available at the Børgefjellsenteret and in Røyrvik. The trails pass through varied natural landscapes and come in different lengths. Downhill skiing and cross-country skiing are therefore two distinct options to consider when planning your winter sports trip. Check the latest information about available facilities before your visit.

The choice between downhill runs and cross-country trails depends on which type of skiing you want to focus on. The six downhill runs and around 25 kilometres of trails refer to different things: the first figure refers to the downhill runs at the Børgefjellsenteret, while the trail figure refers to the combined total at the Børgefjellsenteret and in Røyrvik.

Hiking and activities at the Børgefjellsenteret

Numerous marked hiking trails wind through mountain landscapes around the Børgefjellsenteret. Options range from short, easy family walks to longer routes with views of mountains and plateaus. This allows you to choose between different trail lengths and difficulty levels. The trails complement the winter sports opportunities with another way to experience the landscape; trail conditions can change.

At Småtjønninn, the Børgefjellsenteret’s floating water park has 30 elements for climbing, balancing and playing. The bike park also offers a range of skill features in different difficulty levels and lengths. It is still being developed and can be used free of charge and at your own risk. Various bicycle models are available for hire in the service building. If you plan to use these facilities, check the operator’s latest information beforehand, as details may change.

Arctic foxes, the shore and local history

The Fjellrevsenteret is an information centre about the Arctic fox. There, you can see pictures of Arctic foxes and learn more about the animal and Børgefjell. The centre is open year-round; its operating information may change, so it is advisable to check shortly before your visit. Zarinatangen beach is also located on the shore of Limingen. It has clear water and a designated barbecue area.

A local historical tradition is also associated with Zarinatangen: a young Sami couple once lived there in a gamme. This story is one of the traditional tales about the area and adds a historical connection to today’s nature and leisure activities.

Planning your trip in context

In the wider area of Børgefjell National Park, there are official access points with marked trails at the outset, as well as some open cabins and rental cabins. Sami people have practised reindeer herding, hunting, fishing and trapping there for several centuries; the park area also contains, among other things, graves and settlement remains. These features relate to the wider national park area and provide a distinct regional context.

Then compare the specific details for each hotel, such as location, price and booking conditions.
