Ski Trails and Tracks in Bindalseidet

The loop around the football pitch in Bindalseidet is a groomed ski trail that is 500 metres long. Storenget ski stadium has been completed and is 2.3 kilometres long; it is intended to be maintained regularly. The grooming condition of ski trails and winter tracks can change, so check before setting out.

The route to P-fjellet is listed as a seven-kilometre round trip. The ski track crosses the lake and loops around P-fjellmyra before returning along the same route. Parking for the P-fjellet route is available at the floodlit ski trail; the groomed track follows a tractor road to Øvre Markavatnet.

A path leads to Øvre Markavatnet from Skogset via a tractor road. It passes through easy terrain, with a few marshy sections and some uphill stretches. When planning a hike here, the terrain and elevation gain are as important as the distance; conditions on the route can change.

Hiking and Views

Gundagammen, also known as Grønnbenken, is a Telltur and geolocation destination on the route from Bindalseidet to Heilhornet. This family-friendly excursion offers views over Bindalseidet and the fjord. The name therefore refers both to a tour stop and to a specific viewpoint.

On the Heilhornet route from Fellesbeit to Gundagammen, the path starts out on a good, steadily rising trail; part of it is paved. A hiking route to Heilhornet starts at Vikestad fellesbeite in Bindalseidet. The ascent from Wickestad is listed as 6.5 kilometres. Trail conditions can vary by season, so it is advisable to check before setting out.

For Vassfjellet, the plan lists Bøkestadvatnet or Nygårdsveien as access points; the route is still to be marked on the map. It is therefore important to bear the stated planning status in mind for this hike.

Cultural Heritage Trail and Practical Information

The Kjærlighetsstien cultural heritage trail passes through Vikestadbrekkå and includes cultural monuments from the Iron Age. At Brekkå on Kjærlighetsstien, there is a barbecue shelter, a barbecue area and a toilet. The trail therefore combines cultural history with a place where visitors can take a break.

Bindal as a Wider Travel Destination

Beyond Bindalseidet, the wider destination of Bindal offers other themes to consider when planning a trip. The Bindal Museum in Terråk explores the local use of timber, forestry, the timber industry and boatbuilding. The museum also focuses on boreal rainforest and its rich lichen flora, which includes several endangered species. Visitors are guided through the exhibition.

The Holm cultural heritage trail in outer Bindal is 3.3 kilometres long. It passes the old churchyard at Solstad, the coast and Iron Age burial mounds before returning to Holm Camping. Seven information stations cover burial mounds, animal and plant life, and everyday life in the past; an audio guide is available in Norwegian, English and German.

In the wider destination of Bindal, the hike to 1,058-metre Heilhornet is considered challenging. It passes through steep terrain with exposed sections and some scrambling. From the summit, views extend to the Trøndelag coast in the southwest, the Helgeland coast in the north and Bindalseidet in the east. This regional hike is distinct from the local trails and starting points in Bindalseidet.
