A different period is represented by the Viking weapon grave at Østre Løding. It dates from the late Viking Age; in 2014, the Tromsø Museum carried out a rescue excavation there. The grave was built in a natural cleft in the rock, which served as a burial chamber. The grave goods included a well-preserved fishhook, described as very rare by national standards. For clarity on the dates: 2014 refers to the excavation; the grave itself dates from the late Viking Age.
