In Bjorli, winter sports, cycling and cultural activities come together. Cross-country skiing and downhill runs shape the winter options, while cycling routes and a paved pump track add activities on two wheels. There is also the Sagelva experience centre, which explores the history of hydropower, and trails leading into Reinheimen. When planning your trip, it is therefore worth first considering your preferred season and the activities you would like to enjoy.

Getting here by train

Bjorli station is on the Raumabanen railway. Trains run from there to Åndalsnes, Dombås, Oslo S, Trondheim and Hamar. The destinations range from Åndalsnes and Dombås to farther-flung cities such as Oslo, Trondheim and Hamar. If you are including a train journey in your trip, check the latest timetable before departure.

Cross-country skiing and downhill runs in winter

Bjorli has around 90 kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails in snow-reliable mountain terrain. There are both classic tracks and skating tracks, and artificial snowmaking is also available. The distance is approximate, and which trails are groomed may vary from season to season. This means cross-country skiers can find options for both techniques locally, with trails that are not limited to either one.

Bjorli Ski Centre has downhill runs for all ability levels. One tourism listing gives 11 runs with a total length of around 20 kilometres; figures for facilities may change over time. The ski centre also has a dedicated children’s area, as well as a ski school and rental service at the base station. Cross-country skiing and alpine skiing can therefore be considered as different focuses for a winter trip: groomed trails for classic technique and skating on the one hand, and downhill runs of varying difficulty on the other.

Cycling and outdoor activities

Around Bjorli, cycling routes follow gravel roads through Lesjaskogen, trails through mountain birch forest and paved roads descending into Romsdalen. Cycling in the area is varied and the roads are generally quiet. Conditions on individual roads and trails may vary. These types of routes offer different surfaces and landscape experiences, but do not necessarily form one continuous route.

In June 2026, Bjorli Aktivitetspark opened a paved pump track. It is designed for children, teenagers and adults to practise balance, flow and cycling skills. Another activity is the Høyt & Lavt Bjorli climbing park, which has seven courses with family-friendly difficulty levels. Course layouts and opening arrangements may change, so check the latest information before visiting.

Culture and landscape

The Sagelva experience centre in Bjorli showcases more than 300 years of hydropower use. This offers a different focus from the sporting activities, with the history of hydropower at its heart. Together with trails leading directly from Bjorli into Reinheimen, it provides opportunities for nature and cultural experiences as well as outdoor activities. Reinheimen is one of Norway’s largest wilderness areas.

Lesja in the wider region

In the wider Lesja destination, Reinheimen National Park lies to the west and Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park to the east. The Valldalsleden pilgrimage route runs through Lesja, from Sylte in Valldal, through Reinheimen National Park, to Dombås. Within Lesja, the route passes through Brøstdalen behind Rånåkollen and continues to Einbu. These route details refer to Lesja, not to trails within Bjorli.

Also in Lesja is the nature and cultural trail on Dalsida: the 10-kilometre circular route has 28 information boards about how people and animals have lived alongside their surroundings. The cultural trail at Lesjaverk is a 1.5-kilometre circular route. Their different lengths provide a specific comparison between the two trails; both are described as circular routes.
