Tisleidalen combines varied natural surroundings with forest and mountain landscapes. The Tisleia rises from Tisleifjorden and stretches for 16 kilometres through the valley. You can choose from a range of activities when planning your trip: cross-country skiing in winter, as well as hiking, cycling, fishing and paddling.

In Tisleidalen, traces of the Ice Age can be seen in the form of potholes in Åbjøra and near Kvitingen. Gjøgerlaugitn, near Kvitingen, is also particularly worth seeing and visiting. This means you can include geological features in your travel plans alongside outdoor activities.

Cross-country skiing in Tisleidalen

In winter, an extensive network of cross-country ski trails is groomed on both sides of the valley. The Tisleidalen Løypelag trail network comprises about 150 kilometres of groomed trails. Possible starting points in Tisleidalen include Fjellbu, Liaset, Gjølmyr, Merket, Bjørkestølen, Vasetdansen, Hervasstølen, Sanderstølen, Hermannstølen and Breiset.

One specific route to consider when planning your outings is the Haugsetfjellet rundt trail: it is 28.5 kilometres long, starts at Røde Korssenteret Merket and follows a groomed route. The distances differ considerably: the entire trail network covers about 150 kilometres, while the named trail is 28.5 kilometres long. As grooming depends on the season, it is advisable to check current conditions before setting out.

Cycling and hiking

Tisleidalen offers good opportunities for cycling along flat, open paths to the mountain farms. Cycling is also possible in the mountain bike park at Røde Kors-Senteret Merket. There are different options for outings on two wheels: open paths to the farms and the mountain bike park at Merket.

The area around the centre has suitable terrain for cycling and paddling. Merket rents out bicycles and canoes near the destination; check that the equipment you want is available before your trip. For a hike, the route to Gribbe passes through open terrain and a pleasant area with mountain farms. Along the way, you can enjoy views of Valdres and large parts of Jotunheimen. The combination of terrain, farms and views gives this hike its own character.

Fishing and paddling

There are many fishing spots along the Tisleia for fly fishing, spinning and bait fishing. Pardisfjorden and Ølsjøen are each suitable for paddling and fishing. These two bodies of water let you combine the listed activities of fishing and paddling; different fishing methods are available along the Tisleia. Local fishing permit conditions may vary, so check them when planning a fishing trip.

The area around the centre also has suitable terrain for paddling, and canoes are rented near the destination. This gives you a choice between the named bodies of water and other options in the surrounding area. If you are planning your trip around a particular activity, cross-country skiing, cycling, hiking, fishing and paddling each provide a specific starting point for choosing your stay.
