Skåbu can be explored through several themes: historic farms, an exhibition on village history, religious art and outdoor activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Skåbu, these highlights can help guide your choice: consider whether you are especially interested in architectural and local history or seasonal activities. The local attractions have different visiting conditions, which you should take into account when planning.

Farms, exhibitions and architecture

Lykkja Fjellgard farm is surrounded by 20 buildings; the oldest dates from the late 16th century. Lykkja Fjellgard offers farm visits and guided tours by appointment. If you plan to visit, arrange it in advance.

Skåbutunet consists of 30 buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. It also houses a historical exhibition about the mountain village of Skåbu, focusing on hunting, trapping and fishing. Bakkestugu in Skåbu is considered probably Norway’s last inhabited cotter’s farm. The Falkefanger-Anlegget in Skåbu is a reconstruction associated with the 17th century.

Skåbu Church also offers a specific point of reference for the area’s architectural and artistic history: it is a cruciform church dating from 1927. The altar and pulpit are wood carvings by the Vågå artist Per Haugen.

The Lien-Ford Collection has a different focus. Located in the centre of Skåbu, it displays rare, well-restored Ford vehicles from the 1960s and later. Visiting arrangements may change; check what is currently available before visiting.

Ski trails and guided activities

The floodlit ski trail in Skåbu starts at Skåbu community centre and serves as a starting point for further hikes in the Skåbu Mountains. Skåbu and Espedalen together have an extensive, varied network of cross-country ski trails, with groomed tracks for both classic and skate skiing. Grooming is seasonal; check current conditions for your travel dates.
