Søndre Land: Fallselva, Fluberg Church and Ski Trails
Accommodation in Søndre Land
Søndre Land can be planned around specific destinations and routes: the Fallselva Cultural Trail follows the river, cycling and hiking trails lead into the great outdoors, and illuminated ski trails make winter a particular focus. There is also Fluberg Church, galleries in Hov and Randsfjorden Golf Park. You can make culture, outdoor activities or a mix of both the central theme of your stay.
Cultural Trail and Churches
The Fallselva Cultural Trail is the millennium site of Søndre Land municipality. It runs mainly along the river, from the dam at Trevatna to its outlet into Randsfjorden by the former Holmen Mølle. The trail follows a winding river course approximately five kilometres long. Waterfalls, pools and dams shape the route; the elevation difference is 244 metres. This gives you specific points to consider when planning, from its two endpoints to the landscape features along the way.
Fluberg Church was inaugurated in 1703 and is the oldest of the five churches in Søndre Land. It is also listed as a cultural heritage site. Its founding date and heritage status give the church a clear place in a stay focused on cultural history.
Cycling and Hiking Trails
Trevatn rundt is a marked cycling route approximately 20 kilometres long. In the outlying areas of Søndre Land, there is also a network of marked and unmarked trails, as well as old roads. This means there is a named cycling route alongside a variety of trails for exploring on foot; the details about markings and route types help you distinguish between the options.
Aksjon turmål is an annual hiking initiative throughout the municipality. Søndre Land municipality and the volunteer centre produce hiking maps in a handy 10 × 20 centimetre format; they are also available digitally via UT.no. This lets you choose between map formats when finding your way and combine a hike with the annual initiative.
Ski Trails in Winter
In the Bergegarda ski area, ski trails of 0.6, 2 and 3 kilometres are machine-groomed. The 2-kilometre trail is illuminated. There is also a loop around Landåsbygda, just over 20 kilometres long. The trails mentioned vary considerably in length; illumination is specifically indicated for the 2-kilometre trail.
The Scheeskroken ski area is 3.5 kilometres above the centre of Hov, on Skjølaasvegen. It has illuminated ski trails of 1 and 2 kilometres, a ski play area with a barbecue hut, and a connection to the rest of the ski trail network on Øståsen. Another illuminated ski trail runs for approximately 5 kilometres from Trevatn Velpark at the eastern end of Trevatn to the Solvoll sports field. Bergegarda, Scheeskroken and the Trevatn trail therefore offer different distances and starting points for planning a winter outing.
Art, Golf and Rail Biking
In the centre of Hov, Land kunstforening operates the Galleri Grette and Fjøsgalleriet galleries at Grette Gård. Randsfjorden Golf Park is located on Randsfjorden in Søndre Land municipality. The course is officially rated as an 18-hole course with a par of 70; however, the current layout consists of twelve physical holes with 18 tee positions, played to complete an 18-hole round. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between the official rating and the actual playing configuration.
The Valdresbanen rail-bike route runs between Dokka in Nordre Land and Hov in Søndre Land; the entire route is 24 kilometres long. If you are planning a ride, check current availability in advance.
