Mysen brings together rail travel, local cultural history and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. When planning your trip, it helps to consider these topics separately: the railway station provides practical directions for getting there, the museum focuses on harness racing, and the trails vary in length and route. This can help you decide which aspects of the place matter most for your stay.

Rail travel and railway station history

Mysen railway station is on the eastern line of the Østfold Line. Trains run from there towards Ski, Oslo and Rakkestad; check the connections before you depart. The station opened in 1882, when the eastern line between Ski, Mysen and Sarpsborg was completed. One feature is also noted for getting around locally: Mysen railway station is universally designed.

Harness racing at the Momarken Harness Racing Museum

The Momarken Harness Racing Museum was established in 1999 as Norway’s first and only harness racing museum. A unique collection of sulkies documents developments over more than 100 years. There is also an extensive library containing most of the literature on harness racing published in Norway. The collection and library offer different ways to explore the subject: one focuses on the development of sulkies, the other on Norwegian literature about the sport. For those interested in culture, harness racing is a clearly defined focus in Mysen.

Trails along the river and a longer circular route

The Helsestien runs along the Mysen River, is 3 km long and goes from Susebakkepølen to Kloppa. The trail is accessible to everyone, including wheelchair users. Check local conditions if accessibility is relevant to your plans.

The Helsestien is also part of a 6.5 km circular route via Høytorp Fort. This route is suitable for walking, cycling, exercise and recreation. The two distances help you choose: 3 km refers to the Helsestien between the stated endpoints, while 6.5 km refers to the circular route via the fort. Mysen also has free-to-use walking trails along the Mysen River.
