Vassenden: Skiing, Museum and Golf
Accommodation in Vassenden
Vassenden offers several different reasons to plan a stay: alpine ski slopes and groomed routes at Jølster Ski Centre, the Jølstra Museum with its art gallery, and golf at Sunnfjord Golf Club. If you are looking for a hotel in Vassenden, these attractions can help you plan your stay around the activities that matter most to you.
Skiing and routes
Jølster Ski Centre is the alpine regional centre for Sunnfjord. It has around 4,000 metres of groomed alpine ski slopes and three ski lifts: Kvamsheisen, Bjørkeliaheisen, and Hauglandsheisen, the children’s and family lift. There are freeride areas above the tree line and in the forest. Check operating conditions before travelling; lift availability may vary by season.
The ski centre also has around 20 kilometres of groomed cross-country skiing and hiking routes in the mountain area towards Gjesdalsdalen. The approximate length refers to these routes, not the alpine ski slopes. This means you can plan alpine descents and routes in the mountain area as separate activities.
At the starting point there is a lounge with a café, ski rental and sanitary facilities. These facilities complement the options for visitors planning their time at the ski centre.
Museum, galleries and places to eat
The Jølstra Museum is a private local history museum with buildings up to 400 years old. The historic buildings offer a different focus from Vassenden’s sporting activities. The museum’s art gallery hosts sales exhibitions by local and national artists throughout the year; individual exhibitions may change. Concerts are also held at the Jølstra Museum. If you have a particular concert in mind, check the specific dates.
Eikaas Gallery is located by Lake Jølstravatnet and the E39. Free parking is available by the gallery entrance. Its café offers a simple selection of ice cream, waffles and coffee. For a different dining option, Restaurant Låven at the Jølstra Museum serves an à la carte menu based on local produce. Menus and service arrangements may change.
Golf at Sunnfjord Golf Club
Sunnfjord Golf Club has a 9-hole course with double tees and par 72. The club also has a driving range, a short-hole course, a putting green and a practice bunker area. This describes the course and practice areas as distinct parts of the golf offering: when planning, you can decide whether to focus on a round or targeted practice.
The club also offers courses and lessons. Since arrangements with instructors may change, ask about current options when making specific plans. This lets you include the playing and practice options alongside Vassenden’s other activities when planning your stay.
