Discover Olden and find hotels
Accommodation in Olden
Olden lies at the innermost end of Nordfjord, where the fjord meets a valley in Vestland. The village also lies on the Oldenelva, where it flows into Nordfjord. This location provides a specific context when looking for a hotel: the river, the fjord, local history and guided experiences are among the themes you can consider for your stay.
Church, farms and Singerheimen
Olden Old Church was completed in 1759 and consecrated that same year. The Olden Farm Museum is an original farm complex in Olden, where the Brynestad family lived as farmers and cultivated the fertile land for more than 700 years. Thus, a church building with a precisely documented date and a farming history spanning many generations offer distinct historical points of reference.
Singerheimen was listed by the Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Riksantikvaren) in 2021. Following the principle of “preservation through use,” the house is maintained so that it remains accessible to current and future generations. During guided tours of Singerheimen, the story of William, Anna and Olden begins in the main living room. Visitors then explore the house, including the servants’ quarters and the various bedrooms, while learning about everyday life at Singerheimen 100 years ago.
Guided tours in the village and on the water
The guided tour “Olden Through the Ages” starts at the cruise port and leads through the village of Olden along the Oldenelva, past historic churches and traditional farms, and to sights associated with the American artist and philanthropist William Singer. The two tours have different focuses: “Olden Through the Ages” connects stops around the village, while the Singerheimen tour focuses on the house and everyday life 100 years ago.
The guided kayaking tour in Olden is open to everyone, including beginners with no previous experience. It takes place in stable double kayaks on emerald-green and turquoise glacial meltwater, accompanied by certified local guides. The experiences described therefore differ in both theme and format: a village walk, a history of the house, and a guided activity on the water.
