Kverva offers several distinct starting points for planning your trip: the glacial pothole Ranteligryta, the Vanntanken viewpoint, the Vassbukta recreation area and the landscape of Merradalen. Each highlights a different aspect of the natural features, trails and leisure activities. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay in Kverva, these topics can help you organise your interests for the trip.

Ranteligryta and Vanntanken

Ranteligryta is a glacial pothole to the right of the gravel road on the way to the water tank. The parking area for Ranteligryta is at the water tank in Kverva. A local legend is associated with Rantelikjerringa: according to the legend, she was a witch who lived in a nearby cave. This makes it a place where a geological feature and a traditional tale meet.

Vanntanken is also a viewpoint in the Kverva/Nordskag area and is suitable for all visitors. This assessment of suitability does not mean that it is universally accessible. It describes how the place is considered for visitors, not universal accessibility.

Vassbukta: recreation area and leisure activities

Vassbukta is a recreation area in the Kverva/Nordskag area. There is a hiking trail there, and a disc golf course is also located in Vassbukta near Kverva. The area therefore offers both a trail and a specific leisure activity. Vassbukta is considered suitable for most visitors, but it is not accessible in the sense of universal accessibility. Conditions and facilities may change, so check the current situation before your visit.

Merradalen and getting to the hike

The landscape in Merradalen offers a different emphasis. High cliffs surround the valley on both sides and shelter it from cold winds; a hiking trail runs through Merradalen. A small sandy beach lies at the eastern end of Merradalsvatnet. Compared with Vassbukta, the focus here is on the valley and lake, while Vassbukta has a different leisure profile as a recreation area with a hiking trail and disc golf course.

To get to the hike through Merradalen, take Fylkesvei 716 to Nordskaget, then head towards Storhalleren, where you can park at the signposted turn-off for Merradalen. This route is for the hike through the valley. By contrast, the parking area for Ranteligryta is at the water tank in Kverva.

Cultural history on Frøya

On Frøya, cultural history complements the natural and recreational attractions in Kverva. The Stone Age Trail (Steinalderløypa) presents traces of settlement on Frøya dating back approximately 11,000 years, among the earliest settlement finds in Norwegian history. In Sistranda, visitors can walk along the Stone Age Trail behind the town hall. Sula Chapel is an important site on the Coastal Pilgrim Route (Kystpilegrimsleia) and Frøya’s oldest church site, with roots reaching back to the 15th century.
