Haltdalen brings together local history and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. When planning your trip, it helps to decide whether you want to focus more on architectural history and museums or make time for fishing, hiking or roller skiing. Local sights and activities offer different experiences, so you can tailor your stay to your interests.

Churches and local history

Haltdalen Church was completed in 1881 and has 300 seats. The new Haltdalen stave church was completed in the summer of 2004 and stands between the main church and the old cemetery in Haltdalen. It offers musical, cultural and spiritual experiences. The two completion dates provide two distinct points of reference for the churches in Haltdalen.

Petran local history museum is in Heksemsgrenda, in the centre of Haltdalen. The history of the farmstead dates back to 1450. Gammelgården is the restored former vicarage in Haltdalen. It houses a dedicated Armfeldt Museum about the history of the Caroleans and their time in the area; right next door, the Lapwing Museum tells the story of the largest railway sabotage during the Second World War.

Gammelgården welcomes visitors for refreshments and guided tours. Craft items are sold there in summer. As this offering is seasonal, check before your trip whether it is currently available.
