Discover Malvik: trails, water and history
Accommodation in Malvik
The 2.5-kilometre Malvikstien runs between Hommelvik and Muruvik in the municipality of Malvik, along a disused section of the Nordlandsbanen railway. It is designed to be accessible, and there are several fishing spots along the rocky shores by the sea.
Hiking trails and winter tours
A constructed trail leads from the centre of Hommelvik to Storfossen on the Holma River. The round trip is 6 kilometres. The waterfall has a drop of 40 metres and is the second highest in Trøndelag. Høybydalen Friluftsområde has several circular trails through woodland and marshland, as well as a gravel path. The Pilgrim’s Route also passes through the area. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
The distances given for the two trails are measured differently: for Malvikstien, the distance refers to the route between Hommelvik and Muruvik, while for the trail to Storfossen, it refers to the round trip. This makes it easier to factor the relevant trail distance into your plans.
The Malvikmarka cross-country ski trail network is about 35 kilometres long. Trails and ski runs lead into Malvikmarka from Stavsjøen. Check the current extent of the network and whether the trails have been groomed before a winter outing.

Churches and museum
The wooden Malvik Church was taken into use in 1846. It preserves an altarpiece, a pulpit and a baptismal font from Gammelkirka. Hommelvik Church was built in 1886 and consecrated on 25 May 1887.
The Johan Nygaardsvold Museum is housed in the home in Hommelvik where Johan Nygaardsvold grew up; the house has been converted into a museum. It contains important historical material. Together with the two churches, the museum offers insight into different aspects of local history.
