Fevåg brings together a range of themes for planning your trip: a vast moorland, traces of history and a recurring fish festival. You can choose what to focus on according to what interests you most—nature, cultural history or an event held at a set time each year.

Landscape in and around Fevåg

The large Djupskarmoen moor lies in Fevåg and slopes gently down towards the sea. Its size and the slope towards the sea give the landscape a distinctive character. Those interested in landforms will find a different focus here than at the historic sites or the local events.

Nearby, Brettingsfjellet is located at Fevågskardet, between Hasselvika and Fevåg. The summit offers a good view over the Trondheimsfjord and the shipping route. This gives you a choice of different landscape experiences: the expansive moor on one hand, and the view over the fjord and shipping route on the other.

Cultural history along the cultural heritage trail

The Bakstein cultural heritage trail starts at the youth centre in Fevåg. Several signs provide information about finds from the Stone Age and the Iron Age. The information draws attention to two different periods. The trail also passes the concrete barge “Crete Joist”, which ran aground there in 1943. In this way, the route combines archaeological themes with a specific story from the Second World War.

Another cultural heritage site is the standing stone Finnkarihaugen in Fevåg/Bakstein. As an individual cultural heritage site, it is automatically protected. Serbertrappa at Brettingen, near Fevåg, also has a wartime story at its heart: prisoners of war built the staircase during the Second World War. These places offer different points of interest—from archaeological finds and a stranded concrete barge to a standing stone and a structure from wartime.

Routes and day-trip destinations

Nearby, the hike to Frengsheia goes via Kvernbekken and Moltdalsløfta to the summit. It is about 10 km in total and reaches an elevation of 350 m. For a different destination, there is the route to the Fevåg/Hasselvika Frisbee Park: starting at the harbour, it runs via Fevågskardet; the round trip is about 7 km. The routes differ in both their destination and the stated distance.

This lets you compare the two routes by length without treating their destinations as the same: the Frengsheia hike leads to the summit, while the route from the harbour leads to the Frisbee Park. If the stated distance is your main consideration when planning your trip, you can use these figures as a guide.

Fish festival and recurring events

The annual fish festival organised by Fevåg Båtforening usually takes place on the last Saturday in July. Fevågrittet is a regular cycling race held as part of the festival; Fevågløpet is also a regular run on the festival programme. The festival therefore brings together several types of event. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the date of that year’s edition.

Fevågløpet follows a long-established route around Bakstein. This route gives the race a distinctive local character. Together with the cycling race and the annual fish festival, it creates a clear focus on events, distinct from the landscape and cultural themes. You can therefore choose Fevåg according to whether you would prefer to tie your trip to history and landscape or to the festival period.
