In Flatdal, hiking trails, scenic views and cultural history sit side by side. For planning your visit, it is worth looking at the specific differences: a summit loop at Bindingsnuten, a trail through the wetlands, and themes relating to the church and art.

Hiking and Outdoor Trails

Several hiking trails and paths in Flatdal have been cleared and marked. Flatdal is also one of the areas with cross-country ski trails. A more specifically defined route leads to Bindingsnuten.

Bindingsnuten is the mountain above Nutheim Gjestgiveri in Flatdal. There is a well-prepared loop of about 7 km for the summit hike. This gives you a specific route option alongside the several marked trails.

Another trail leads to the Dagsturhytta Høyselet and passes the Nature Lab (Naturlaben). The well-prepared gravel path runs through the wetlands of Flatdal, the Flatdalsøyan. Both the day-trip destination and the scenery along the way are part of the route description: the trail runs through Flatdalsøyan and past the Nature Lab.

Views of the Valley and Mountain Face

The Nylende viewpoint is a designated stop along the road. Its design highlights the contrast between Flatdal’s flat, green valley floor and Skorve’s steep face. From the viewpoint, you can look out over Flatdal and towards the Skorve face.

Church and Art in Flatdal

Flatdal Church is a wooden long church, built in 1654 on the site of an earlier stave church. Its furnishings also refer to this predecessor: the crucifix, altarpiece and canopy come from the earlier stave church. Bishop Bernt Støylen had these furnishings salvaged and installed in the church in 1923.

Galleri Nutheim showcases art by artists from the region. Flatdal also has three so-called “Viewing Stones”; each has a bench where you can contemplate art in the landscape. These offer different ways to experience art: regional art in the gallery and art in the landscape at the Viewing Stones.

Nutheim Guest House caters to bus groups and other groups with meals and a tour of the gallery. Confirm the group offering for your preferred date before your trip.
