Discover Byremo: Water, hiking and culture
Accommodation in Byremo
When planning a stay in Byremo, you can consider water spots, hikes and culture as different areas of focus. Sandvika on Øvre Øydnavatn and Byremosanden offer specific places to visit for water activities; there are also the Logefjell and Hisåsen routes, as well as Grindheim Church. This lets you plan your days in the area around landscapes, activities and cultural attractions.
Water spots and getting to Sandvika
The Sandvika recreation area is on Øvre Øydnavatn in Byremo and includes several beaches; locally, it is also called Sandvikan. The journey is divided into two sections: from Selandsdalsveien 4026 in Byremo, follow Refsnesveien for about 700 metres to a parking lot. From there, it is about 1.7 kilometres to Sandvika along a gravel road. Plan for the drive to the parking lot and the onward walk as separate sections.
Paddling and facilities at Byremosanden
Sandvika has a landing stage; boats and kayaks are available to rent for excursions on Øydnavannet. At Byremosanden, eight of the 13 canoes in total are available to rent free of charge and are open to everyone. The canoes can be rented from 15 May to 15 September. Check availability for the relevant rental service before your trip.
Byremosanden is a natural recreation area with swimming spots. Access to the water there is suitable for people with limited mobility. Facilities include a parking lot, toilets, a gapahuk shelter, a boat-launching area, a hiking area and a sand volleyball court. This location therefore offers several different options for planning a visit to the water.
Hikes with different points of interest
Logefjell is a short but steep hike to a viewpoint on the plateau northwest of Byremo centre. The Hisåsen route starts behind Byremo videregående skole upper secondary school and leads to a summit with views of Selandsdalen, Øvre Ågedal and Øydnavannet. To choose between the two routes, you can consider Logefjell’s short, steep character or Hisåsen’s starting point and named viewpoints.
Grindheim Church: construction and rose painting
The present-day Grindheim Church dates from 1783. It is built of horizontal round logs and decorated with rose painting by Tore Asbjørnson Risøyne. The main motif of the painting is an acanthus vine. The church can therefore be appreciated both for its construction and for a specific detail of its artistic decoration.
