Môlča lies in the northern part of the Zvolenská vrchovina uplands, in the valley of the Môlčiansky potok, with the Malá Môlča as a tributary. To the east of the village is a 2 km² karst island. If you are looking for a hotel in Môlča, first consider whether the landscape, village history or cycling is likely to shape your stay. This puts two distinct landscape features side by side: a valley with a named tributary and a karst island to the east of the village.

Landscape and Caves

Mariana Cave is short and has three branches. It lies in the Môlčianska Valley, opposite the turnoff to Malá Môlča. Its entrance is on the left, below a rock face, in an abandoned quarry. Mariana Cave is notable for its three-branch layout and its specific location in the valley; the karst island, by contrast, is described by its area and its position east of the village.

Na Drienku (Starý Drienok) is an old mining site that partly transitions into karst formations. The system is approximately 2 km long; navigation is difficult, there is water in the system, and the entire mining system is unstable. This adds another landscape feature alongside Mariana Cave: here, an old mining site meets karst formations. Its approximate length indicates its size; navigation, water and instability also characterize the system.

History in the Village Center

Môlča was founded around 1300 on the lands of Comes Miku, the son of Radun. The first written record dates to 1424, when the village was called Mocha. The two dates refer to different historical milestones: the village was founded around 1300, while its first written record dates to 1424.

There are historic cellars in the village center. The village bell tower is a masonry structure with a square floor plan and a pyramidal roof; a plaque commemorating the victims of the First World War is attached to it. The building offers distinct points of interest in terms of architecture and remembrance: the floor plan and roof describe its form, while the plaque commemorates the war victims. Together with the cellars, these features provide different ways to connect with the history of the village center.
