Krahule combines a ski resort and several routes with a signposted walk to an observation tower, as well as local history stretching from the 14th century to the bobbin-lace-making tradition. When planning your trip, it is worth considering winter sports, views and local history as separate points of interest: the routes to Skalka offer different activities, while Krahulský štít is the place to take in views of Kremnica and the Žiar Basin.

Visitor Centre and Winter Sports

The STRED EURÓPY visitor centre is open to visitors year-round in the centre of Krahule, right by the valley station of the ski lifts. Check seasonal operating conditions before your arrival. The Ski Krahule ski resort has a four-seat chairlift and four ski lifts. Since the facilities may change, it is advisable to check the latest information for your travel dates.

A 5 km cross-country ski trail lies near the ski resort. Depending on requirements, it is groomed for classic or skating technique; grooming and availability may vary by season. This makes the trail a separate option from the connections leading from Krahule to Skalka.

Routes to Skalka

From the ski lifts in Krahule, Skalka can be reached on cross-country skis via Predné pláne and Zadné diely. The cross-country route to Skalka is extensively groomed and is also used by sledders and pedestrians for winter and summer tourism. Grooming depends on seasonal conditions. Unlike the trail near the ski resort, this connection leads to a named destination and passes through the two areas mentioned.

Another route to Skalka is the “Krahule – Salka Via ferraty” route. It is 4.5 km long, takes about two hours and has a low difficulty level. From the ski slope in Krahule, it follows a well-maintained forest road with a moderate incline all the way to Skalka. The route is suitable for hiking, cycling and ski mountaineering. Unlike the cross-country connection via Predné pláne and Zadné diely, this route starts at the ski slope and follows the forest road. For via ferrata activities, check equipment and access conditions in advance.

For cyclists, the Kremnica – Krahule – Skalka – Kremnica route is another option. It connects the three places and passes through the Kremnica Mountains. Compared with the routes from Krahule to Skalka, it also includes Kremnica and passes through the mountains on the way back to the starting point.

Views from Krahulský štít

The walk to the Krahulský štít observation tower is suitable for all age groups; signposts mark the entire route. From the observation tower, the view extends over the town of Kremnica and, in the background, across the whole Žiar Basin. For an outing focused on views, this route is therefore different from the connections to Skalka.

Local History and Craftsmanship

Krahule – Blaufuss was originally a German settlement in the 14th century, inhabited by lumberjacks, charcoal burners and miners. The Church of St John of Nepomuk in Krahule is another example of the town’s history: the Baroque-Classical church was built in 1806. Lace-making is also part of the town’s history. Krahule was a centre for this craft; in 1895, a state bobbin-lace workshop was founded there to teach lace-making and sell bobbin lace. Krahule’s settlement history, architecture and craftsmanship are thus distinct aspects of its cultural history.
