Klokoč: Mineral Springs, Nature Trail and Village History
Accommodation in Klokoč
Choosing a travel destination often depends on a range of interests. Klokoč brings together several distinctive local features: mineral springs, a nature trail in the village center and the Múzeum v starej škole in the original rooms of a two-classroom school. There is also a preserved municipal bell tower and the Church of the Immaculate Heart of the Virgin Mary of Fatima. Here, you can encounter nature and local history in a variety of ways.
Mineral Springs in Klokoč
There are currently seven better-known mineral springs in Klokoč: Polom 1, Polom 2, Palčúrova, Podrichtárova, Jašova, Kubova, and a spring in the spruce grove by the Kocanský stream. Polom is considered the best-known and most visited mineral spring in Klokoč; there is a tourist rest area next to the spring. Jašov Medokýš, also called Jašova medokýš, emerges in the alluvial deposits of Jašov stream. Local residents visit it frequently. Polom is notable for its prominence and rest area, while Jašov Medokýš is known for its streamside setting and frequent visits by locals.
Nature Trail and Route Options
The Park of the Bandit Paľo Demikát is a nature trail in the village center that follows in the footsteps of the bandit Paľo Demikát from Klokoč. You have two route options: one runs along a stream, the other alongside an abandoned quarry. The routes therefore differ in their surrounding landscapes. Information boards line the entire park. Route conditions may change, so check current local notices before your walk.
School Museum and Local History
The Múzeum v starej škole is located in the original rooms of a two-classroom school. Its furnishings include school desks, the original blackboard and a wooden floor. The museum also houses ethnographic exhibits with historical significance, along with various objects used for different activities during the past century. The space preserves its connection to its former use as a school, while the collection offers further historical perspectives. To visit, make an appointment by phone or email; there are no set opening hours.
The preserved municipal bell tower of Klokoč stands in the local cemetery. It dates from around 1780 and contains a bell. The Church of the Immaculate Heart of the Virgin Mary of Fatima was originally a funeral home. The two buildings have different historical associations: the tower can be dated approximately, while the church is defined by its former function as a funeral home.
