Abovce lies in the southern part of the Rimavská kotlina Basin, in the valley of the Slaná River. Transport connections for planning your trip

Road II/571 runs through Abovce. Railway line No. 160 between Zvolen and Košice also passes through the village, with the Abovce stop along the line. For planning purposes, you can first distinguish between road and rail connections. If you are considering travelling by train, check the timetable for the stop in advance.

Manor house and architectural history

The Abafiovci manor house is a single-storey, three-part neoclassical building with baroque elements. It was built on a rectangular plan between 1800 and 1810. Its neoclassical design and baroque elements stand side by side. The manor house complex is located in the centre of the built-up area. The manor house is listed as No. 932 in the Register of National Cultural Monuments of Slovakia.

The Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a single-nave, neo-Gothic building. The presbytery has a polygonal end; the projecting tower dates from 1907. Buttresses and pointed-arch windows articulate the façades. An earlier church in Abovce had already been built in the late Middle Ages and was mentioned in 1745. The historical timeline therefore ranges from the late Middle Ages, through the manor house built between 1800 and 1810, to the tower of 1907. “Single-nave” refers to a church space with one main nave; a polygonal end here describes the multi-sided shape of the presbytery.

Fishing and local information

Fishing on the Slaná River is highlighted as a tourist activity in Abovce. In addition, Štrkovisko Abovce is a private fishpond. The river and the pond offer different fishing contexts; registration and permit requirements apply to Štrkovisko.

If you enter the water area there, you must register with the manager. You can buy a fishing permit on site as needed. The warden provides visitor information and handles reservations. Check the arrangements with the person in charge before you arrive. On the road from Rimavská Seč towards Abovce, a sign and a banner on the right point to Štrkovisko Abovce.
