Žíp combines a historically shaped village structure with two ensembles listed as national cultural monuments. The village lies in the Rimavská kotlina on the left bank of the Blh River; the landscape is predominantly flat and gently rolling. If you are looking for a destination focused on townscape and architecture, Žíp offers several distinct points of interest.

Townscape and Location

The preserved layout is considered characteristic of a clustered street village. This designation brings together two features: a settlement pattern organized along a street and grouped buildings. The building stock includes masonry houses from the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Some houses retain column-supported galleries on the courtyard side; their façades preserve late Classicist features. The village’s character can therefore be understood both through its overall layout and through individual architectural details.

Žíp lies on the road between Rimavská Seč and Bátka; the village can be reached from the main road by a short detour. Žíp is also part of the Gotická cesta tourist route. Its roadside location and connection to the route offer different points of reference for planning your trip.

Church and Bell Tower

The Reformed Church of Žíp and the adjacent bell tower together form an ensemble listed as a national cultural monument. The wooden bell tower has a shingle roof and dates from around 1750. Fragments of medieval wall paintings are preserved inside the church, on the walls of the presbytery and on the triumphal arch. The presbytery is the chancel area of the church. The paintings and the bell tower provide distinct architectural accents within the same ensemble.

Manor House and Park

The Neoclassical manor house and park in Žíp are also jointly listed as a national cultural monument. The manor house is a two-storey rectangular building with two wings. The park was originally designed as a natural and landscape park. Thus, a clearly described building and the original concept for the park form part of a single heritage ensemble. The manor house and adjoining park are currently in a dilapidated condition. If their present condition is important to your plans, check it again in advance.

Historical Periods and Trip Planning

The dates point to different historical layers: the wall-painting fragments are medieval, the bell tower dates from around 1750, and the masonry houses date from the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Žíp’s architectural history therefore cannot be reduced to a single period.

If you are looking for a hotel in Žíp, you can use the focus on cultural history as a starting point when choosing your destination. The settlement pattern, the two heritage ensembles and the different construction periods can help you decide whether this village’s character suits your travel plans.
