Lipovec lies in the southeastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains, between the Blh valley and the valley of the Drienok stream. The viewpoint on the edge of the village, cycling connections and Protestant church are specific places to visit during a stay. Depending on whether you prioritise views, cycling or architectural history, Lipovec offers different reasons to make the trip.

Viewpoint and Getting There

The viewpoint is on the edge of the village and offers a view of Kráľova hoľa. There is also a panoramic information board with descriptions. The view and the board are two distinct features of the same destination: the viewpoint offers the view mentioned, while the board adds descriptive information to the site. The viewpoint can be reached by car or bicycle. You can therefore treat getting to the viewpoint and choosing a specific cycling route as two separate planning questions.

Cycling Around Lipovec

Access to the viewpoint is via Slizké along blue cycle route No. 2564. Teplý Vrch is the recommended starting point for the route. The Teplý Vrch–Potok–Slizké cycling route also passes through Lipovec and is considered challenging. Another route description gives a 48-kilometre route from Rimavská Sobota via Padarovce and Teplý Vrch to Lipovec, which also leads to the viewpoint.

It is important to keep difficulty and length distinct: the challenging rating applies to the Teplý Vrch–Potok–Slizké route; the 48 kilometres refers to the route from Rimavská Sobota. Route information may change; check the route, the blue markings and the recommendation to start from Teplý Vrch locally before setting off.

Local History and Church Architecture

Lipovec was first mentioned in writing in 1413; the Protestant church was built between 1788 and 1793. The dates tell different stories: 1413 marks the first written mention of Lipovec, while 1788 to 1793 refers to the church’s construction period. Local history and building history can thus be considered as separate points of reference in time.

The church can also be described through its features. A wooden Protestant gallery runs along three sides; the organ has a Rococo case dating from the late 18th century. These are two distinct architectural details: the gallery describes the balcony in the church interior, while the Rococo case describes the organ’s design. If you are considering historic architecture as well as scenery and cycling when planning your trip, Lipovec offers a cultural theme of its own.

Walking in the Surrounding Area

There are also opportunities for walking in the area around Lipovec. This broadens the range of options when choosing a destination beyond the cycling route to the viewpoint: cycling is associated with named routes, while walking takes place in the surrounding area. This lets you include different activity preferences in your travel plans.
