Dubová lies on the edge of the Trnava Hills. The western edge of the town marks the boundary of the Pezinok Carpathians and their Homoľské Karpaty section; the Dubovský potok stream flows through Dubová.

Hiking and Views from Kukla

A three-hour hiking route leads from Zochova chata via Medvedia skala, Tri kopce and Mount Kukla to Dubová. The three-hour duration helps you plan this hike as a half-day excursion.

Above Dubová, a 12-metre-high wooden observation tower stands on Kukla at an altitude of 564 metres. From there, the view stretches far across the Little Carpathians. Near the observation tower, there is a developed fire pit for grilling and benches. If you plan to stop there, check the current condition of the fire pit beforehand.

Churches and Places of Worship

Dubová’s original parish church was dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and was already standing in 1332. The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary was built in 1907 in the Neo-Romantic style on the site of an earlier Gothic chapel. It is in good condition and serves its religious purpose.

Vítkov vŕšok above Dubová also has a religious history. On the slope of the Little Carpathians, there is a Marian grotto with benches and votive plaques. In 1967, believers built a Calvary on the same hill through their own efforts.

Geology at the Sports Complex

The interactive exhibition “More pod našimi nohami” (The Sea Beneath Our Feet) at the sports complex presents the history of seas millions of years old that left fossil traces in the surrounding area. The exhibition is also accessible to blind and visually impaired visitors. It takes visitors from the history of the Earth to tangible traces in the local area.

Another interactive educational table is located by the community hall on Sokolska Street, at the entrance to the sports ground. It depicts the municipal area and its geological treasures. The exhibition focuses on ancient seas and fossils, while the educational table focuses on the municipal area and its geological features.

Local Customs and Specialties

The scískaníc festival, dedicated to preserving local traditions and customs, is held annually in Dubová. If you are planning your trip specifically around the festival, check the date for the relevant year, as it may vary.

A local culinary specialty is traditional Dubovské sciskanice: they are made from baked potato dough and served as an accompaniment to wine tastings.
