Vinné: Lake, Castle and Nearly 800 Years of Wine Tradition
Accommodation in Vinné
Vinné offers several clearly distinct themes to help you plan your trip: Vinianske Lake and its recreational activities, historic buildings, and a long tradition of winegrowing. If you are looking for a hotel in Vinné, you can choose what to focus on: a stay by the water, the history of Viniansky Castle, or the local winegrowing culture.
Water and recreation at Vinianske Lake
Vinianske Lake covers an area of 8 hectares and is up to 3.8 metres deep. The lake is intended for swimming, water sports and fishing. If you want to plan your trip around a particular recreational activity, these three options offer distinct focuses.
Pedal boats and boats are available for hire at the lake. There are several motorboat rental services in the area around Táborisko by the lake, as well as opportunities for sightseeing trips. The boat services differ both in type and in location: motorboat rentals and sightseeing trips are located in the Táborisko area.
Castle, trails and cultural monuments
Viniansky Castle dates from the second half of the 13th century. A tower with a triangular ground plan was built at the castle in the 1260s. The tower adds a specific structure and a more narrowly defined construction period to the castle’s general dating.
Viniansky Castle can be reached on foot from Vinné via a blue-marked hiking trail. At the mountain saddle, this joins a yellow-marked trail that leads to the castle. The ruins offer views of the Eastern Slovak Lowland.
The Church of St. Anne is a national cultural monument in the upper part of Vinné. Below Senderov lie the ruins of the little church, a restored monument offering one of the most beautiful views of Zemplínska šírava and the surrounding landscape of southern Zemplín. The two viewpoints differ in the landscape they overlook: from the castle ruins, the Eastern Slovak Lowland; from the little church, Zemplínska šírava and southern Zemplín.
The Vinné Municipal Museum and Gallery are open to the public, particularly for study, learning, education and aesthetic appreciation. The museum and gallery thus complement the buildings and monuments with a cultural focus that explicitly includes learning and aesthetic appreciation.
Winegrowing and local tradition
Vinné has a nearly 800-year tradition of grape growing and winemaking. Along the ZA VIŇANSKIMA JATKAMI trail, visitors pass dozens of winegrowing buildings known as Jatki. They are partially built into the ground. The winegrowing tradition is reflected here both in its long history and in a distinctive type of building that you will encounter along the trail.
One specific date on the events calendar is Jánske ohne nad Šíravou. The traditional event has been held since 2013; on 27 June 2026, it took place at Vinianske Lake.
