There are several specific themes to choose from for a stay in Dobrá: the Greek Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, a museum with a traditional living room, the history of the parish, and an important ancient Hungarian archaeological site. There is also an annual goulash-cooking festival, a seasonal invitation to the grape harvest, and a signposted cycling tour through Medzibodrožie. For your travel dates, the distinction matters: the grape harvest and festival require planning around specific dates; the grape harvest also requires prior arrangements with Mikuláš Fedor.

Church and Local History

The Greek Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built in the 1790s in the Classicist style and stands on a sand dune in the center of Dobrá. Behind the iconostasis is the main altar, decorated with Rococo ornamentation; it dates from the late 18th century. This means that two art-historical features can be distinguished on site: the Classicist church building and the altar’s Rococo ornamentation. The possibility of seeing the interior may vary.

The Greek Catholic parish of Dobrá is considered the oldest parish in Medzibodrožie. Dobrá is also considered an important ancient Hungarian archaeological site. The first written mention dates to 1323, when the place was called Dobrá. Another construction date provides a more recent point of reference: a building erected in 1930 stands in the village center. The historical points of reference therefore range from the written mention of the place, through sacred architecture, to a 20th-century building.

Museum and Traditional Rural Living

The museum in Dobrá displays a traditional rural living room with a bed, wardrobe, table, and dishes. The exhibition may change. A remarkable wooden chest called LÁDA is hand-hewn and about 200 years old. The living room and the chest offer different perspectives: one shows the furnishings of an entire room, while the other is a single historical object with an approximate age. The focus is therefore on both the furnishings of the living room and the craftsmanship of the chest.

Grape Harvest and Regional Cuisine

At the end of September or beginning of October, Mikuláš Fedor invites folk culture enthusiasts to the grape harvest. Visitors can pick, destem, and crush grapes, press them, and sample the results. Participation should be arranged with the host in advance. Guests can also enjoy Frankovka wines; confirm the arrangements for a visit before travelling. The grape harvest and wine tasting are two different ways to discover the area’s connection with wine, but both require advance planning.

Festival and Cycling Tour

Dobrá hosts an annual open-air goulash-cooking festival, with competitions held during the festival. A 2021 Košice Region brochure also mentions a cultural program featuring performances by various folk ensembles. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the current dates.

A signposted cycling tour through Medzibodrožie passes through Dobrá on the route between Pribeník and Biel. This involves different planning considerations from the festival and grape harvest: the cycling tour passes through the region, while the two culinary events are tied to specific dates or seasons. You can therefore first consider whether to plan your travel dates around the cycling route or a seasonal event.
