In Viničky, the Tokaj wine landscape, historical heritage, and activities on the Bodrog come together as distinct themes for a stay. When looking for a hotel, first consider whether wine and cuisine, cultural history, or a river trip should shape your stay. These themes provide a practical basis for tailoring your trip to your interests.

Tokaj Wine Landscape and Regional Cuisine

The Tokaj vineyards of Viničky extend across tuff soils on the southern slopes of the Zemplín Mountains. Viničky is one of the villages along the Tokaj Wine Route where visitors can enjoy local culinary specialties as well as wine tastings in cellars. If you are planning a particular tasting, ask the provider in advance to arrange a time.

The historic Zlatý Strapec cellar is a family winery in its third generation of winemakers. Tastings are offered in a medieval cellar with two tasting rooms. In the tasting room, you can find Furmint, Lipovina, Yellow Muscat, sweet and dry Spontaneous, and Selection. The wines on offer may change; if you would like to try a particular variety, ask about it beforehand.

The Zlatá Putňa restaurant features Zemplín cuisine, with traditional Slovak and Hungarian dishes alongside a variety of seasonal specialties. As the menu and opening hours may change, it is advisable to check both before planning a restaurant visit.

Historical Traces and Culture

In addition to the vineyards, the family of Count Július Andrássy owned large wine cellars, wine houses, and a chapel in Viničky. St. Joseph’s Chapel on the family estate was built in the Baroque style in the late 18th century and is now used for Roman Catholic Masses. If you plan to attend Mass, check the current schedule in advance.

The Filagoria is a preserved light fortification dating from the First Czechoslovak Republic and is used as a viewpoint. Another way to experience regional culture is through the Tokajský strapec female folk singing group in Viničky, founded in 1972. It performs at various cultural events in the Medzibodrožie and Použie regions. Through its repertoire, the group seeks to preserve the old customs and traditions of its ancestors.

The Bodrog, Cycling, and the Landscape

Boat trips on the Bodrog start at the harbor behind Viničky and continue to neighboring Hungary. The trips include commentary on the river’s features and the flora and fauna of protected areas. Wine tastings and refreshments on board are available; check current arrangements with the operator.

Cycling is also among the town’s documented projects. As part of the Cross-bike project, Viničky provided eight electric bicycles, a charging station, and a rest stop. At the handover, the public system was made accessible to everyone. The project also included the refurbishment of a 1.75 km cycle path. These details describe the project; check whether the bicycle system is currently available before your trip.

Borsuk, a protected landscape area with warmth-loving vegetation, lies in the northern cadastral area of Viničky. An obsidian deposit was discovered in the andesite area of Borsuk. This landscape adds nature and geological features to a stay that also takes in wine and culture.
