Sasinkovo combines a long local history with a castle, two churches and a rural setting. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in the village, these themes help put the character of the destination into context: the focus is on historical landmarks, different religious buildings and the municipality’s landscape. The village’s history dates back to its first mention in the 13th century; the churches date from the 19th and 20th centuries, adding a later historical dimension.

Historical Traces and the Castle

Sasinkovo is first mentioned in 1256 under the name Sag. In 1256, Sag was considered a settlement of royal fishermen. From 1412, Sasinkovo belonged to the Hlohovec estate. These are two distinct historical connections: the early name of the village and its later affiliation with the estate. This chronology provides a framework for understanding the later buildings as part of a local history spanning several centuries.

The castle is first mentioned towards the end of the 16th century. It is a Secession-style building with Neo-Baroque elements and was remodelled in the early 20th century. Its historical mention and remodelling belong to different eras; together with its architectural style, they can be considered historical and architectural aspects of the same building. The castle grounds also include an extensive park. The castle is currently privately owned. If you are planning a visit, check in advance whether access is possible.

Churches and Other Buildings

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria was built in 1802; its main altar dates from the time of construction. The Evangelical church was built in 1935 and has a hall with a semicircular altar apse and an incorporated tower. The original main altar is a notable feature of St. Catherine’s, while the Evangelical church is distinguished by its hall layout, semicircular end and integrated tower. The statue of St. John of Nepomuk in Sasinkovo dates from around 1772, adding another historical landmark to the village’s buildings and works of art.

Both churches are in good condition and continue to serve their religious purpose. If you are planning to visit the interior, please check in advance whether this is possible.

Landscape and Former Livelihoods

Sasinkovo lies in the southwestern part of the Nitrianska sprašová pahorkatina loess hills and along an upper tributary of the Jarč stream. The cadastral area includes pockets of heat-loving oak forests with black locust trees. The location in the named hill region, a stream and specific areas of woodland are distinct features of the surrounding landscape.

Agriculture and viticulture were historically associated with Sasinkovo; in the past, most residents worked in these fields. This tradition adds another aspect of the village’s history to the architectural and landscape themes: it refers to activities that shaped residents’ lives in earlier times.
