Accommodation in Hradište Pod Vrátnom
Hradište pod Vrátnom between the stream and the landscape
Hradište pod Vrátnom lies in the valley of the Brezovský potok. For trip planning, specific natural and local landmarks go hand in hand with hiking and cycling routes, as well as buildings and historic memorials. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Hradište pod Vrátnom, these themes can serve as a starting point: the key question is whether you want to spend most of your time enjoying the landscape, being active, or exploring local cultural heritage.
Nature and protected landscape
The Malé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area lies partly within the cadastral area of Hradište pod Vrátnom. The Kyseľová Natural Monument protects a rocky forest-steppe in the Myjavská pahorkatina, with rare, endangered and protected heat-loving plant species. Mníchova úboč protects rock formations in the georelief there, as well as a heat-loving rocky steppe with several endangered and protected plant species. Both natural monuments therefore focus on distinctive rocky landscapes and habitats for heat-loving plants.
Archaeological traces and churches
On Tomišovec Hill above the village, a small fortified settlement dating from the 9th to 10th century was established below a steep slope along the Brezovský potok. The dating is based on the ceramic fragments found there. The hill thus links a specific place with the archaeologically documented history of an early settlement.
The church stands in the northern part of the village on Háj Hill. Its chancel has a three-sided end; one surviving window has a Gothic vault. The Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity was built in 1845 on a hill northeast of the village, above the Vlčie jamy sandstone quarry. While the church was being repaired after the 1906 earthquake, services were held in the chapel. The two buildings are therefore distinguished by different architectural and historical features.
Cemetery and memorial sites
The parish cemetery surrounding the church is well maintained and enclosed. It contains stone crosses dating from the early 19th century, known as “dobrovodské” because of their craftsmanship. A large stone cross at the cemetery entrance bears the year 1783 and the restoration inscription “Reno 1910”.
In Dolný koniec, a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk with a chronogram dating from 1759 stands in a small park at the junction of the state road and railway. The war memorial features a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and plaques commemorating local victims of the First and Second World Wars. The village’s history thus encompasses both older religious monuments and a memorial to those who fell in the two world wars.
Culture and routes for planning your trip
Hradišské vábenie is a cultural event for local and visiting audiences, including children and adults. The Hradišťanka brass band is also known beyond Slovakia.
