Osuské can be explored through two themes: the Rieka Myjava Natural Monument and the town’s historic landmarks and religious sites. The landscape is shaped by a protected stretch of river; the town’s history is reflected in its buildings, memorial sites and individual historical details. Nature and culture offer different starting points for planning your trip.

Rieka Myjava Natural Monument

The Rieka Myjava Natural Monument also includes the cadastral area of Osuské. It consists of three separate sections, together covering 27 kilometres of watercourse. The total area recorded for the natural monument is 34.9384 hectares.

Features of the protected area include a preserved, meandering riverbed and typical stands of trees and shrubs along the banks. The winding river and its accompanying riverside vegetation give the landscape its distinctive character. The Osuská Linden is also designated as a protected natural feature in the municipality.

Cycling route nearby

A municipal development plan for 2015–2020 describes the signposted Kopaničiarska cyklomagistrála No. 022, marked in red, in the vicinity of Osuské. The recreational route described there connects Záhorie and Považie via the Myjava Kopanice settlements. Before setting out, check whether the red markings are currently in place.

Church, landmarks and local history

The history of the church in Osuské can be traced through several documented phases of construction: it was built between 1619 and 1631, remodelled in the Baroque style in 1751, and has a masonry organ gallery dating from 1844. A chapel built in 1666 is also important to the town’s history. Ján and Juraj Ďurišoví commissioned its construction. An organ gallery is a balcony that accommodates an organ.

The Calvary group, a stone-carved work from the second half of the 18th century, stands in front of the church. Another religious monument is the 19th-century Holy Trinity monument. There are also several historic landmarks along Emanuela Lehockého Street: statues of saints line the street, and the monument to the victims of the First World War stands near the municipal office.

Jewish cemetery by the Myjava River

The Jewish cemetery in Osuské lies on the right bank of the Myjava River. Its layout was approximately square, measuring about 15 metres on each side. Remnants of a stone enclosure survive around the entire perimeter as a continuous stone embankment. A description updated in February 2021 recorded fewer than ten surviving gravestones there, almost all in a single row along the western wall.

When choosing your destination, this presents a clear contrast between the multi-section natural monument and the individual historic sites within the municipality.
