There are several ways to plan a trip to Horné Orešany: the Majdán Nature Trail and a marked cycling route, nature at Všivavec, and wine and religious history. You can plan your stay around what interests you most: a route, plants and landscapes, or regional culture.

Hiking and cycling

The starting point of the Majdán Nature Trail is at the Horné Orešany, Majdán bus stop. The trail is 5.9 km long and has ten stops and 14 information panels. This means you can take both the distance and the number of information points along the trail into account when planning.

Another route-planning option is the yellow-marked cycling route No. 8219. It runs above the Horné Orešany Reservoir and joins a blue-marked cycling route near the Majdán recreation centre. The routes therefore have different points of reference: the nature trail is described by its length and stops, while the cycling route is identified by its markings, number and course. You can start by choosing the type of route that suits your outing.

Nature and landscape

The natural attractions include Všivavec Forest and the Všivavec protected area. The forest lies right beside the main road from Horné Orešany to Smolenice and is easily accessible by car or bicycle. It consists of oaks, elms and ash trees; ramsons and spring pheasants’ eyes are abundant. The protected area lies on the cadastral boundary of Horné Orešany, in the southeastern foothills of the Little Carpathians. It protects communities of heat-loving and drought-tolerant plants and animals, as well as dolomite outcrops. The natural attractions therefore include both specific forest plants and protected communities and geological formations.

Wine in spring

Each year in spring, SZZ Horné Orešany organises the wine tasting “Orešanská koštofka”. Visitors can sample more than 400 wines from the region, other parts of Slovakia and Moravia. If you want to include the tasting in your plans, look out for it during the spring months and check the exact event date in advance.

Religious history across different periods

Religious history offers several points of interest from different periods. The Chapel of Saint Roch is mentioned in a visitation record from 1761. The Lourdes Grotto near the church in Horné Orešany was built in 1930 by Michal and Katarína Pašek. In 2017, the façade of the Chapel of Saint Vendelin was restored and its interior was repainted.

The parish church in Horné Orešany was solemnly consecrated in 1861 by Cardinal Ján Scitovský, Archbishop of Esztergom. Its pulpit dates from the second half of the 18th century and is designed in the Rococo style. For those interested in art history, the pulpit combines a specific style with a date, while the consecration of the parish church is a separate event with an exact year.
