Lošonec: Hiking Trails, Protected Areas, and St. Anne’s Church
Accommodation in Lošonec
If you are considering Lošonec as a destination, you can plan your trip around three themes: hiking trails and protected areas, cycling tours, and the history of St. Anne’s Church. Each interest offers different points of departure.
Hiking and Natural Areas
The Jahodník recreation area is the starting point for marked hiking trails to Čierna skala and Záruby. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Jahodník to the Čierna skala Nature Reserve. From the 662-meter summit of Čierna skala, you can enjoy views of the extensive forests of the Little Carpathians and the Danube Hills. The Jahodník recreation area lies partly within the cadastral area of Lošonec and is also the starting point for an access trail to Driny Cave. Access to the cave is seasonal.
Several marked hiking trails pass through Lošonec and connect the Jahodník and Majdan recreation areas with Plavecké Podhradie. This makes it possible to plan routes around several named destinations rather than focusing on just one trail. Check local signs and trail conditions before setting out.
The two nature reserves also offer different highlights. Klokoč lies within the cadastral area of Lošonec, covers 21.59 hectares, and was designated in 1996. Its landscape is shaped by limestone and dolomite ridges; the Klokoč massif consists of exposed basic volcanic rock known as melaphyre. On this igneous rock, it forms an unusual, meadow-like ridge complex. The area is home to grassland and herb, shrub, and animal communities, including fallow deer, mouflon, and roe deer.
The Čierna skala Nature Reserve covers 29.71 hectares and was also designated in 1996. It protects karst features in limestone and well-preserved xerothermic communities. Natural woodland and open-land communities are interspersed with rock faces and scree slopes. While Klokoč stands out for the distinctive geology of its melaphyre, Čierna skala is defined by its karst and rocky landscape.
Cycling Routes and a Loop
There are two different points of reference for cycling tours: the Malokarpatská cycling route runs through the foothills near Lošonec. A cycling loop follows forest tracks via Majdan and the Parina ponds as far as Doľany. This lets you choose between a named cycling route through the foothills and a specific loop that includes forest tracks. Surfaces and conditions can change, so check them before setting out.
St. Anne’s Church and Its Construction History
The Roman Catholic Church of St. Anne and its fortifications are listed as a national cultural monument. Its construction history can be traced through several phases: the present-day presbytery was built during the Baroque renovation of 1714, and the two side chapels were added in 1753. A wooden pulpit survives from the interior furnishings completed by 1753. It displays features of late ornamentation and elements of the High Baroque. The details of its construction give the church its own cultural significance alongside the trails and protected areas.
