Váhovce combines its proximity to the Váh with protected habitats, cycling routes and a local history reflected in its church and memorials. Natural areas, cycling, and local architectural and commemorative history offer different points of interest for your trip.

Landscape and Protected Areas

Váhovce is located close to the Váh River. Most of the municipality lies on the alluvial ridge along the river’s right bank; elevations range from 118 to 124 metres above sea level. The Vodné dielo Kráľová waterworks, built on the lower reaches of the river, is also located on this ridge. The river is therefore a defining feature of the municipality’s landscape.

As of March 2026, the planning documents designate the area of Váhovce as part of the Natura 2000 site and bird protection area SKCHVU010 Kráľová. The supra-regional ecological corridor NRBk1 Váh also extends into the cadastral area. The bird protection area also includes the cadastral area of Váhovce: its aquatic habitats provide suitable conditions for the Black-crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) to breed and survive. The protected area, corridor and habitat describe different aspects of the local natural environment.

Cycling and Access

The R1 expressway runs through the cadastral area north of Váhovce. There is no direct road connection from the R1 to the village. This distinction is important for orientation: the expressway’s location within the municipality does not mean it leads directly to Váhovce.

Two cycling routes with a total length of 11.9 kilometres are listed in Váhovce. The red Vážska cyklomagistrála 002 is listed for the village at 5.1 kilometres, and the blue Okolo VN Kráľová 2207 route at 6.8 kilometres. Map listings may change when routes are updated.

A description by the regional administration dated 28 October 2017 and updated on 21 February 2022 also lists a 17-kilometre cycling route from Horný Čepeň via Sereď, Dolná Streda and Váhovce, Kaskády to Šaľa. Within the cadastral area of Váhovce, a four-kilometre paved section on top of the embankment forms part of this route. Surface conditions may change; check the route details and surface before setting out.

Church and Memorial Sites

The late Baroque Kostol sv. Mikuláša biskupa church was built in 1778 on the site of an older church, which was already mentioned in 1669. Its main altar is in the Classicist style and features an image of Saint Nicholas; the Classicist side altars are dedicated to the Holy Trinity and Christ on the Mount of Olives. Several Classicist altars are thus found within a late Baroque church.

Buildings and monuments outside the church also point to different chapters in the village’s history. The statue of Saint Florian was erected in 1827 in memory of a major fire in 1824. Historically, a procession took place to the statue on 4 May, the feast day of Saint Florian; the day was observed as a vow of fidelity to the saint. The Heroes’ Monument (Pomník hrdinov) dates from the 20th century and commemorates those who fell in the First and Second World Wars. Another sacred monument is the Classicist stone wayside cross from 1793. Together, these sites represent different forms of remembrance: of a fire, of those who fell in the world wars, and of religious traditions.
