Pila: Ski Slopes, Bike Park and Mountain Trails
Accommodation in Pila
Pila combines winter sports with summer opportunities for cycling and hiking. Ski slopes, cycling options, hiking trails and viewpoints offer a variety of ways to plan your day. Travelling via Aosta and the starting points of individual routes provide additional guidance for your planning.
Skiing in Pila
The Pila ski area has 4 black, 21 red and 4 blue runs, with a total length of 70 kilometres, and reaches an altitude of 2,700 metres. The 70 kilometres describe the total extent of the ski area, while the breakdown by run category provides further guidance. If specific figures are important to your travel decision, check the piste information before your trip; exact figures may change following future infrastructure developments.
Cycling and other activities
Pila Bike Park includes the “DH World Cup Corrado Herin” downhill run. Pila Bikeland lists downhill, cross-country, flow trail, enduro, e-bike, all-mountain and pump track as cycling options. The MTB rental shop is next to the ticket offices at the Pila–Stella departure station. Downhill, enduro and e-bikes, as well as bicycles for children, are available there. Check in advance whether the bikes you want are available in the relevant season. Pila Adventure Park also offers its own range of activities, including Tibetan bridges, log walkways, zip lines and net bridges. Safety equipment and staff supervision are provided.
Hiking trails and viewpoints
Pila’s official summer portal provides maps and GPX tracks for walking and trekking routes. Routes range from easy paths suitable for families and pushchairs to more challenging trails for experienced hikers. When choosing, you can take into account both your group’s needs and the stated difficulty of the route.
You can also start the Alta balconata di Pila route by taking the gondola to Stella di Pila. Stella is at an altitude of 2,723 metres and offers views of Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, Gran Paradiso and Monte Rosa.
Another tour leads from the mountain station of the Chamolé chairlift to Lago Chamolé. Trail 19C is 678 metres long and takes 15 minutes in one direction. Seasonal conditions may affect access; take this into account when planning. The lake lies in a green hollow and offers views of Mont Blanc, the Gran San Bernardo Valley and Gran Combin. The viewpoints offer different highlights: from Stella, you can see four named peaks, while Lago Chamolé adds the green hollow and views of the valley and Gran Combin.
Travelling via Aosta
The gondola from the centre of Aosta reaches Pila in 18 minutes and takes you directly to an altitude of 1,800 metres. From Aosta railway station, you can reach the lower gondola station on foot via a short pedestrian underpass. This separates the journey into two stages: the walk from the railway station to the lower station, followed by the gondola ride to Pila. Whether you are planning your trip around the ski slopes, cycling options or hiking destinations, this information provides practical guidance on getting there and choosing your starting point.
